v1 headband felt flimsy, mine actually started to lose it's position for the right cup...it would just slide down. I sent mine in for warranty and they sent me a v2. The v2 headband is WAY sturdier and feels a lot better in terms of feel, but it doesn't have the comfort strap that the v1 has so it's a bit less comfortable. The v2 also sounds less harsh in the treble region where sibilance happens. Overall I think the v2 is better.

Just my 2c but I don't even think these were $1799 when they were released years ago. Looks like they probably jacked up the price for a "sale". You can get HiFiMan Ananda for roughly this same price.

Resale value of the earlier versions has actually gone up on he6 og but I suppose you just want to hate on hifiman and not open to alternative viewpoints. Which is ok with me.
Yea I bought this cause it's impossible to get the original he6

In 4 1, upgrading from the He560v4 Adorama deal from a few months ago. Anyone know if the Drop THX AAA One Linear amp will be powerful enough to drive there or .... anyone have any specific amp suggestions? Currently running an Atom amp

Launched at this price, so definitely not a "sale".

The thx aaa will not be adequate. People often use speaker amps for these in fact.

You might be slightly starved for power depending on how loud you go. The original one might've been okay using the balanced connection. I have a Jotunheim, which is similar to the original one and found it got barely loud enough, but there was no headroom.

I've used it on my Emotiva a100 basx and power is good, plenty of headroom. I'm currently using an old Onkyo M504 stereo amp directly to the speaker taps with a passive nobsound preamp. My amp does 165W into 8ohms, which is WAY more than anyone needs to drive these, but it was just laying around so I purposed it as my headphone amp. Based on the VU meters on my amp, it only ever goes to 1W since I don't listen to my headphones loud, but VU meters aren't exactly 100% accurate.

If you want a dedicated headphone amp and don't want to go the speaker amp route, people have said the Jotunheim 2 does well with it. Others have said the original THX AAA with the balanced connection does decent. I can say the original Jotunheim does good as well, but I don't know how loud you listen to your music.

Since you have an Atom, just try it out. You'll know if you need a new amp or not pretty quickly.

If you want to see a comparison between the original, se, and se V2, here is a good source with lots of technical data.

I wouldn't listen to him on that. The revisions were tested on audiosciencereview to good reviews. This is one of the few openback headphones tested on that site that's recommended. If you exclude sennheiser, this is the only openback tested so far that was VERY good. I just bought something, but I'm probably going to try to do this too. $650 for this is definitely a good deal, if you're willing to get an amp/etc.

I'd go with the Topping A90. That has a lot of power. From AudioScienceReview's measurements, you want about 1.2W for this, and the Topping A90 will have enough headroom for that (I don't want to drive an amp at it's max power).

Currently I'm running a JDS atom which pushes 1.1w/ch from what I remember, and the he6se calls for 2w/ch minimum according to hifiman's manual, not sure if the same applies for the V2, I'm planning on testing it on a Drop THX 789 balanced amp

I wanted to mention that I do actually have a Yamaha TSR-700 that I could use to test as a speaker amp before making any bigger purchases. Is it worth a try? There's a 1/4" jack in the front but I'm assuming when any of you recommend a speaker amp, you mean using an adapter from RCA to XLR and plugging in with the XLR cable with the He6se, correct?

I am running these headphones balanced with a Schiit Jotunheim 2 + Schiit Modius stack and the combo sounds amazing.

I run mine off a 789 and it feels like it could use more power but from all the reviews 789 is suppose to have more than enough.
