How does this compare to a UDM or WiFi 6 Access Point (e.g. U6-LR) in terms of stability?

Extremely stable per professional reviews. Also extremely powerful but in a single router setup meant for homes under 2000 sq foot probably 1500sq foot sweet spots. This router is extremely small in size so it might surprise you if you get it. As for the price its not the great its been this price and I believe a little cheaper multiple times before.

I think all the technology that is of interest - other than the new 6G spectrum, is part of the AX specification. So it can improve things just going to it.

Just something to keep in mind regarding this router as I almost posted this deal yesterday:
  • Each band on it has its own wifi standard from what I have read(wifi 4/5/6 for 2.4g/5g-1/5g-2 respectively).
  • No Merlin support
  • Wifi 6 supposedly doesn't work in AiMesh as the wifi 6 band is the dedicated backhaul for mesh.
  • Wifi 6 on this router can only be achieved through that second 5g band as I mentioned above however, if your area has a weather radar, wifi 6 wont work at all and go down to wifi 5.

Other than that, this is a great router as a standalone unit. I actually bought one yesterday and it should be arriving soon.

If you need one today.. you can't wait.. my parents broken, gave them my ac1900 and got a 6. Asus's 6e at 600 isn't really affordable till they come out with lower end models.

I had one of these. It wouldn't play nice with 2-ax3000 and 1-ac68u in aimesh. Constant crashing and losing nodes. Returned it.

Will this replace the one I purchased from Verizon? I am only looking to upgrade my router/modem that I have for Verizon Fios. It uses 2.4 and 5 Ghz. I'm not tech savvy enough to give more details but I only need to upgrade my current WiFi situation as it seems like all my devices intermittently go slower at times (started to notice this within the last year). We have a 100 Mbps upload/download plan.

Thats not true unless its isolated to this device or asus FW. I am running a merlin ax aimesh network (with wifi backhaul) and my AX clients are clearly using AX streams.

Lol weather radar? Really...

I also think you need to regoogle wifi6...

Anyway you got one thing right, these dont have merlin support. I personally wouldn't recommend them.

Merlin is an alternate, open software? Besides privacy gains, what are the big benefits?

Its actually modified asus firmware, but yes custom.

Gains are stability, features and constant stream of fixes and additions. Community sourced testing of betas also really adds to its stable releases.

Chasing the latest tech is not always a good idea.
First, this is only one pack, and that's not a good price for one pack.
Second, if you have Ethernet cable to connect multiple, then you will have the 5G-2 for WiFi 6, otherwise the 5G-2 is used for backhaul, and only that band has WiFi 6.
Ram is small, my main unit has 97% used.
But at least ASUS is still updating their firmware! Not like tp-link

Broadcom chipsets usually allocate close to 100% ram so this is normal... check actual used ram vs available ram and free ram and you will see a ton is actually not really being used.
