Single is a vacuum. It is constantly sucking hot air from outside the room to cool the room. That requires more energy than dual hose. If it's triple digit, you are SOL with a single hose.

Dual hose is slightly better and it depends on the AC and how it's made. There are models with one hose that are better than two hoses. It is better to avoid portable ACs all together unless you have no choice!

FWIW, I live in the PNW and I have a dual hose. I tend never have to empty any water from the unit with the exception of the record high heat wave we had a couple weeks back. My in law who has single hose had to empty after a couple days I believe post heat wave.

The problem with single hose units is they are using already cooled air to cool down the condenser, while dual hose units use outside air.

It's a great explanation and makes me happier I have my single hose unit in my office sucking up all the pc exhaust and blowing it outside whilst putting air from the cooler parts of my house through the door, while not having my house look like a trailer with window units hanging off the front.
