Why? Upgrade is free anyway if you have a valid Windows 10 installation and this build meets the minimum hardware requirements.

No, you don't have to. This is how I did the install:

Unplug power supply
turn on the PC (it should not turn on , remaining el. shoud be gone)
remove original cooler and cpu
close the bracket, prepare Veetro Cooler and align screws on cooler base with holes in the MB. Its a pain to do it with new paste etc.
Also note the letter V on cooler base, install it so you don't have it upside down like me, remove cooler base
plug the Veetro fan into MOBO. It's a pain to do it after you install your cooler base, move it aside
Re-paste and install your CPU
Install the cooler base. Should be very easy when you have now all the screws aligned, tighten
Install fan on cooler base
plug in, turn on, everything works, no error message during boot

I know I do not have a time machine, but the i3 version was on sale on the 12th and 15th this month, for 300. Cannot say there will be more deals but maybe worth waiting to save 100.

Ahh really need a PC like this just to have a media server I can always keep on. Is this worth it? I'm looking for something in the 250-300 range

I have it. After clean win install and cpu fan replacemt, it is a quiet low profile desktop. How many hard drives are you planning on installing?

Are you using plex/emby/Jellyfin? This will definitely work as the integrated graphics should be able to handle up to 20 hardware transcodes.

I currently use HP S01-pf1013w for my plex box. This is under $200 on e bae currently. Add in another 4 gig stick of ram and a 256gig nvme drive and it'll be a very performant box for plex.

I keep my media on a separate nas so I don't need a lot of hard drive bays so the hp I recommended may not be for you. But if you already have a separate device/nas with your media I can't recommend this higher.

If you have any questions about my setup I'd be happy to answer them.

Which CPU fan did you go with? I've been looking to replace the one in my Dell G5 and Dell 8940. Thanks!

Appreciate it. Did you have to remove and put the motherboard back into the chassis to install the fan?

No, you don't have to. This is how I did the install:
  • Unplug power supply
  • turn on the PC (it should not turn on Smilie, remaining el. shoud be gone)
  • remove original cooler and cpu
  • close the bracket, prepare Veetro Cooler and align screws on cooler base with holes in the MB. Its a pain to do it with new paste etc.
  • Also note the letter V on cooler base, install it so you don't have it upside down like me, remove cooler base
  • plug the Veetro fan into MOBO. It's a pain to do it after you install your cooler base, move it aside
  • Re-paste and install your CPU

Perfect! I'll have to order it. Thanks again.

Only in that you have to buy another Dell PSU compatible to this line. I've looked into it and a 500w one cost about 100 on eBay. Otherwise the connection is proprietary so no after market.
