Hey guys - Just a quick PSA for when these orders likely get xcled - When you call to complain, whine, threaten to never shop at HD again, yell at or say how you'll sue them, blablabla, remember that the person you're speaking to didn't cancel or decide to do so to your order. They will stick to the script. Take the 20% off your next order, free ship or whatever consolation offer they give and move on.

They aren't getting paid enough to care about your interpretation of a law or that you will never shop there again and how much you spend there. Trust this.

Should go without saying, but some of the posts here are pretty concerning...

this is my favorite part of a deal on SD. when a deal gets cancelled. when all the "lawyers" come out.

When I bought this mattress (exact same from HD, during a sale), it was drop shipped from the manufacturer. They estimated 3 weeks, but I got it in two via a box truck to my house.

I could be convinced that HD doesn't have many, if any, actually in stock. I think the 'in stock' number may just be a place holder. Do the math on how many cubic feet 1000 of these would take up, and I think you'll realize the unlikeliness of it.
Since you actually own this thing, does it bend? How easy is it to move? We have some really tight spiraling stairways to get mattresses upstairs. Queen beds were a PITA, and that was just mattresses - no box springs.

Amazon had Samsung 8k TVs for a few hundred dollars that shipped.
Whoa. When was that?

Yes, some. Our bedroom is a hard right turn off of the main hallway. The installers had to wiggle it but got it to work. I would say it wasn't as bend-y as the queen it replaced, but the new one is a firm, heavy mattress, so that's kind of expected. I'm not sure it's 200lbs like stated, because we stood it at the footboard and let it 'flop down' flat on top of the box springs. None of us lifted it's full weight, we just scooted it along the floor.

The box springs should not be an issue. They come as two, separate twin-size pieces, and were fairly light.

Clearing the ceiling coming up the stairs is our main issue, that and lot of acrobatics on each turn. A queen barely cleared the ceiling sliding it up the stairs. I think for this king to fit, It would need to be bent into a C-curve or something. Either that or slid up diagonally. The crazy thing is the master bedroom is clearly designed for a King - it's huge compared to the other rooms. We're in a rental.

#1 Rule of SlickDeals has always been, "Do Not Call"

Granted, we have tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of new members and even more lurkers, then ever. Even when SD was hardly known, people couldn't follow that one simple rule.

Of course. But, I wouldn't be too hard on the people who called, because it's like we set off a 10,000 ton bomb on that item. Home Depot will be aware of the issue long before the manufacturer ships anything - it's not some low inventory item that's going to slip under their noses.

BTW, I think the reason why the lead time is so long to ship is because they actually build beds based on orders. At least that's what it says in the item's Q&A:

Does this matress ship directly thru Home Depot?

Answer
Hello Viviene, the mattress is produced at a Serta Simmons Bedding facility local to your area after order is placed. Once produced, the mattress will ship via a home delivery provider to the destination of your choosing (your home or local store).

I agree this deal already set off alarms, calling ain't gonna do a thing but…. If users don't know the rule today, they won't know it tomorrow unless we tell them now. So maybe the next deal calling could jeopardize it, and now they "should" know what not to do.

That sounds like a challenge, particularly since it's a rental.

In you position, I might consider a powered scaffold to lift it up to the 2nd floor, assuming you have an open-air 2nd floor walkway/balcony. Then, you could completely ignore the stairwell and related challenges.

I wouldn't take it too seriously. Mattress is produced after an order is received? Come on, I am not buying sandwiches from Subway. The vendor must have the mattress in stock somewhere. The reason why it is a long lead time is because this is a bulky item. Bulky items tend to have a longer generic lead time. The vendor has to locate the inventory to fulfill the orders and longer lead time gives them sufficient time to search their local warehouses. I wouldn't be surprised orders ship out much earlier (assumed HD fulfill the orders), but I would be surprised orders shipped out across regions like CA to NY or vice versa. The shipping cost will be killing them.

I specifically showed you the Q&A answered by the Manufacturer, and you're saying I'm not correct - there's some mattress inventory conspiracy? It makes perfect sense - they just keep a pipeline going, mostly producing after orders come in, because mattresses are so damn big.

Why are you questioning the manufacturer's answer is the real question?

Any issues with indentation/sagging within a few weeks or months like some of the reviews say?

The question was answered by Level 1 HD representative, not the manufacturer. It is your call if you rely on the answer like that. I don't.
