Melatonin WILL f*ck your body up and only helps you get to sleep initially.

Threonate/apigenin/theanine combo will change your sleep quality forever. Google is your friend, search Andrew Huberman. He has been pushing this for awhile and long list of positive results. He was on Joe Rogan again recently and a new wave are getting onboard.
Thanks bro now apigenin will never come back in stock.

I do not think that you can generalize the dosage for any vitamin or medicine. There is no such thing as the "average person" . The dosage for a 300 lb , 6' 5" male is going to be different that the dosage for a 112 lb, 5'2" female. Also different chemicals have different effects on different brains. I do agree that you should start with 3mg dose but if that isn't helping then there is no reason not to try 5 or 10 mg
I agree, but I upvoted this person's comment because it reminded me to check the dosage. That's a bit high for me. I'm aiming for about 1 mg. I'm 250 pounds.

FYI: https://examine.com/supplements/melatonin/

"For regulating the sleep cycle, doses of melatonin between 500mcg (0.5mg) and 5mg seem to work. Start with 500mcg, and if it doesn't work, work up to 3-5mg. The benefits of melatonin are not dose-dependent - taking more will not help you fall asleep faster.

To help with sleep, take roughly 30 minutes before going to bed.

Growth hormone appears to spike slightly better at 5mg than 500mcg, although both doses are fairly effective."

Damn. How do I get back to normal here.
He's being alarmist, but slowly work your way back down or stop taking it. I only take it as needed with the .25 to .3mg sublingually. Personally melatonin even at those doses, jolts me up in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the post. I have been trying melatonin for sleeping, but it doesn't help much. I will appreciate if you can tell me where you get this combo. I assume it helps you fall asleep and stay asleep. If there is a link where I can buy this, that will be great. Thanks a lot.

Melatonin advice online is rampant so this certainly isn't a prescription but I've spent a lot of time trying to read up on melatonin and 3mg seems like roughly double what I've seen the average man under 40 needs. There's practically zero hard evidence that overdosing will harm you, despite hot takes that "your body will stop producing it naturally." That said, you might try 1mg to start and see if it works for you. I no longer need it after consistently taking 1mg nightly for about a month.

I really appreciate the info here and will definitely make the change. Went through some depression and needed help sleeping for 6+ months. I have gone without it a few times now but I'll try to lower the dose or remove it altogether.

I actually started with diphenhydramine and only switched because I found melatonin on sale. Can I technically remove melatonin and go back to the old one if needed?

I hear ya man. Not being able to sleep sucks. If you like it and it works for you, Id try to work your way down. Also consider dosing it sublingually or letting it dissolve under your tongue. Can use a smaller dose and it is more effective.

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine which can have negative impacts on hormone production especially testosterone, so while it is fine occasionally, I definitely wouldnt recommend using it too often. I do use it every once in a while, when I need to get back to a regular sleep schedule.

To help with sleep consider sensoril ashwagandha dosed in the morning:https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...UTF8&psc=1

and scoop of taurine about an hour before bed: https://smile.amazon.com/Best-Nat...169&sr=1-5

Buy each from Amazon individually. Listen to the Rogan episode with Huberman as the guest last week. He talks about brands and dosing and why these work so well at the beginning of the episode. He's a brilliant man and well ahead of his time for commercial medicine.

That's the problem I use to have. I now use time released tabs and they seem to do the job.

Studies [mit.edu]show anything over .3mg is overkill and will have a negative impact.

You need to not rely on melatonin to put you to sleep. That's the first step. Try to change up your exercise habits, and don't eat late at night. Eating late at night will make your brain active. It's in the name of the type of product; it's a supplement. It's just meant to help a little, not take control.
