im not trying to beat the dead horse of it being made in china... however, i will say that if you are ok with buying chinese tools, i would be very wary about buying something like a multi tap that has some bad reviews. you need some really good strong steel that isnt going to snap halfway through tapping something. cause if it does snap, you basically just ended all hope of salvaging whatever you were tapping, as you likely wont get the tap back out.
where taps and dies are concerned... buy a tool made from a trustworthy tool brand.

While I generally agree, I'm not sure it should be too much of a concern for this tool's intended use - which is for electricians working on sheet metal or plastic electrical boxes where there won't be a whole lot of breaking stresses.
Also, while the Amazon picture is not clear, it appears that the actual tap says USA on it - at least it does on the replacements (see pic): Attachment 10345963

the reviews on amazon and elsewhere both talk about broken taps. i have no experience with this particular tool, but id be wary based on that. unless improperly used, there is no reason these shouldnt be made to handle much more than sheet metal and plastic.
the photos are just stock photos. klein has definitely outsourced a ton of stuff to china, and im sure they havent necessarily scoured all of their product photos and made sure they are updated to reflect that. the photos in the reviews showing what people received confirm that they are made in china.

There's little doubt that this model is made in, or at least partially made in, China. My question is where the tap itself is made.
All taps can break, regardless of where they are made. To be able to hold a cutting edge, they will also be very brittle, so if you put sideways force on them or too much twisting pressure, like if it binds and you don't clear the chips, it's potentially going to break.
But I think that would be rare in a plastic or sheet metal application and even if it does break on you, removal of the broken bit won't be nearly as difficult as, for example, from an engine block.
it appears Klein uses the same taps (they are replaceable) with different handles. The taps appear to be all made in the USA.
One thing to note about the more expensive cushion grip model is that it comes with two taps. if you had to purchase the additional tap, You are better off getting the more expensive model. Better grip + internal storage for the second tap. Effectively the same cost

Yup literally using it to retap electrical boxes from 6-32 to 8-32 in my house. I doubt it will snap since I am barely applying any pressure. So far it has worked very well
.
Scroll down to Product Information and notice the "Country of Origin China." The price increase is for the extra taps.
The Klein replacement taps from Amazon are also made in China. Our electrical supply house still has the replacement step taps made in the USA. Personally, I use the tap size I want in a cordless drill with a little wax that is exponentially faster.
Maybe this set is better? AUTOTOOLHOME Combination Drill and Tap Bit 6-32nc 8-32nc 10-32nc 10-24nc 12-24nc 1/4-20nc Set of 6
Same price?
Here is the link[amazon.com] you should have included? Those are maybe fine, but not the same tool in that they both drill a hole and tap the hole in one operation with a drill. The OP tool is mostly to repair a stripped hole in an outlet box, etc., to the next common up size by hand. Like I said, just use the right size tap, or even remove the tap in the OP, put in a cordless drill and done in a couple of seconds.

That is when you get out the prior outsourced Chinese manufactured Vise Grips to remove the broken tap.
Not everything made in China is junk, but most of the outsourced products are less than when manufactured in the USA to continue profits over quality. Since profits are why they outsourced to begin with, to continue same with ever increasing wages for Chinese skilled labor, nobody will notice a 10% reduction in cobalt, etc. that allows the CEO to get his/her bonus.

At least the price is reflective of Klein's increased outsourcing.

If you require a US made one, they have a more expensive model: https://www.kleintools.

Here's the link for the Made in the USA version for those that hate Chinese tools. Now pay up or stop complaining.
