mine just shipped via FedEx.... can't wait until it gets delivered on Wednesday.

a few quick question:

(1) since it can run Android app, can it run Google Maps and navigation? Or does it not have an internal GPS antenna?

(2) can it play YouTube videos in 1440p or 2160p?

(3) is it possible to upgrade the RAM or the SSD?

Thanks for your help!
1) it doesn't have a GPS sensor.
2) yes, in 4k. In 60fps it drops some frames. At 30fps it's fine.
3) RAM is soldered, no. SSD is NVME 2230.

Sure is. Ubreakifix (Google authorized repair) also let me know that they wouldn't be able to source the battery.

But I'm having second thoughts. I honest don't know why I ordered it. I do love Chromebooks, but I probably don't need a new one right now. I simply could not resist this great deal. (more than 50% off it's usual street price)

On the other hand, I've never owned a laptop with 4k OLED screen. I get the feeling that I'll be enticed by the screen into keeping it.... Frown
I'm having the same thought... I have a tabS7+ from their crazy deal a while back and a keyboard case. S7+ has 12.4" 3k AMOLED screen which is a inch smaller than this chromebook. I mostly just use them for browsing (1/4 time of browsing is on SD LOL) and reading news. I used them around the house mostly downstairs and backyard. I don't see much difference s7+ and this chromebook in my use cases. and the battery life in this chromebook is even worse than s7+, which is a downside.
Have to find a good point to convince myself to keep it.

Samsung's website is so shitty. Been trying to order one all day and the EDU/EPP discount would not apply.

I know this Chromebook's battery life isn't good, but how many hours are we talking about? Is is it just 1 or 2 hours? Smilie

I read a review that said 4 to 4.5 hours... that seems kind of reasonable to me for a 4k display. My Note 20 Ultra has a great display and I don't complain about its battery life being much shorter than my iPhone 12 Pro.(which I can sometimes go 2 days without charging)

By the way, can this Chromebook be charged from a large USB-C portable battery? (say, 20,000mAh or larger)

Thanks!

...I need a stronger will to resist these good deals.

Just a quick glance around my house right now.... I can easily see at least 10 to 15 products that I don't really need. (but couldn't resist buying after seeing the great deal on Slickdeals)

We need a support group to cure our addiction to low prices and super deals... Slickdeals Anonymous.

So, I started watching some you tube videos to what to expect and I wanted to share.

According to this video replacing the SSD with a 1TB, https://youtu.be/QAyFRj-gORI

the system may have a SSSTC https://www.ssstc.com/product/bus...4-pcie-ssd

benchmarks:

He also mentions that the windows vm running on linux was laggy - as expected though.

4-5hrs from what I read too. sure not bad for a 4k oled, but with some idle drain most probably I'll end with charging it daily, like my phone.

yes, portable battery will charge it but I guess will be very slow though.

A few youtube videos mention bad battery life and I think around 3-4.5h with 50-55% brightness. They also mention using the darker backgrounds/more blacks to get to that level. That's about double any alienware laptop I have owned and I replace batteries every 1-2 years.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I bought the red one a few months ago for $479 and still think it's a great value. I use it as a second device after my MacBook Pro, mainly for video consumption and internet browsing. It has mostly replaced my 2018 iPad Pro. I also appreciate that I can run a hobbled Linux on it.

The screen is the best on any device of this form factor, very bright with beautiful color. It is very, very thin and light. It is visually stunning and attracts interest, because it looks like a premium ultrabook not a sub-$500 Chromebook. The built in stylus is a nice touch, but it is not that great to use, especially when coming from using the Apple Pencil.

There are a number of pretty significant drawbacks to note:

Battery sucks as many have mentioned, but I always have a 87W Anker 20k mAh battery in my backpack to keep it going.

The keyboard is middle-of-the-road and the trackpad is poor.

The WiFi antennas are weak.

It doesn't seem very durable. Because of how thin it is, the device bends pretty easily. I was worried I might break it in the tablet holder on an airplane.

The screen hinge isn't the best build quality. I always find myself adjusting it, rather than just opening it to my preferred angle like I would on a MacBook Pro or Surface Laptop.

The touchscreen overlay is visible when using it as a tablet in portrait orientation, which is annoying.

These drawbacks are not dealbreakers for me, but I find myself pulling out my Mac if I want to type more than a few lines or do any sort of multitasking.

SD should check how much redirecting URL they are adding to original website URL.

This one redirecting to 5 different websites before landing on Samsung website.
Use the Undisposition extension for Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Edge, or what I use -- Brave.

Mine shipped as well. I bought it for a single reason: my wife is a pianist and asked for an 12 inch ipad pro to read sheet music on. The whatever $1k that ipads go for seemed super overkill for that - this seemed like a way to get a similar sized screen that she can just fold and put on the music desk for less than $350 (315ish after CB). Hopefully it will do that - all it has to do is display pdf's in portrait mode.

I am a professional musician as well and got it to read sheet music also lol. Was also considering an ipad pro or surface pro 7 but this weighs about the same when the keyboard is attached. We'll see.
