In stepladder mode, this is 6'
The 12' reach figure is based on an average human standing on the highest safe rung in extension mode.

FYI the ladder over stock is usually not on the floor or in the over head storage (at least in my area) they keep them outside in the back of the building in fenced cage or auxiliary storage area. If the stock is showing over say 1-2, and not on the floor, it will usually be back there. You will usually have to find a manager, lowes pros person or the actual person that is working that department to look for it. The run of the mill worker will just say they don't have it.
Just got one that I saw in stock through the Brickseek link. That is a HUGE help!!
Shame Lowe's doesn't allow for online ordering, but I called and they pulled 1 of their 2 for me and it was waiting for me at the service desk for $56.97 plus tax just under $61.
Version 2.0 is on the shelf advertising maybe 6" more in reach height and a 1 handed lever but the 2 release buttons won't bother me for the $60 - 100 savings and at 6' it is the max my SUV can carry without a roof rack.
Brickseek has been a miss more often than a hit
