Bought one a couple weeks ago when it was 140. I challenge anyone to find a phone of this quality for this price brand new. One of the commenters said it was slow. I disagree, it's running Android 11, and doesn't seem to be any slower than my Galaxy S10. For the person wanting to get back into Android phones, this is the perfect opportunity to get a flagship from a couple generations ago for cheap. Bummer that there is no headphone jack, and the top and bottom bezel are larger than the newer model phones, but that leaves good amount of space for the stereo speakers on top and bottom, they are better than any other phone I've ever had. Again, I want to point out that this is running Android 11, and even though it is not being updated any further, it's amazing to get Android 11 for this price.

I reached out to woot customer service regarding the locked bootloader and got the below reply. I asked them if its a verizon/ or google unlocked, whether it can be used with any carrier, whether I can use it in India, and whether I can unlock the bootloader myself. I am even more confused now with their reply.
Quote :
1. It's a Verizon locked phone.

2. You cannot use it with any other sim, as it is locked. To use it with T-mobile, you would require to first unlock the phone by getting it to local repair station.

3. You wouldn't be able to use the phone outside US, without getting it unlocked.

4. That was the mistake on the item's description. It doesn't have bootloader with it.
I am extremely surprised by replies 2 and 3 above. Does anyone have any insight?

Great phone for the price, but be warned they stopped doing security updates in December of last year.

Does anyone know if I can use this phone to upload photos to Google Photos without activating it with my carrier (Verizon)? I have a lot of photos and videos I want to move from Dropbox to Google Photos (I know, I should have probably done this months ago). I simply want to connect the phone to my Google account. If I understand Google policies, uploading from this phone (over WIFI) should mean my old photos do not count against my storage cap. Is this correct? I would also like to use it as a camera (really wanting to try the G camera) and load some small game apps for my daughter to play with in the car. I don't care about battery life, making calls, or the phone getting updates. I am thinking of getting the Pixel 6 when it comes out and using this phone as a trade-in.

Unlocked bootloader seems like a good deal no? Can't you install more up to date versions of Android this way via Lineage OS?

real reason: to allow better waterproofing
The number of times I want to use my headphones FAR exceeds the number of times I want to swim with my phone.

That's why the iPhone 7 and higher without the headphone jack and Pixel 3/4/5 had lower IP ratings than Samsung/LG/Sony with headphone jacks on board? Keep making up excuses for manufacturers who just want to grab more of your money. The headphone jack is one of the easiest ports to seal up, if anything the charger port, speaker and mic ports are more susceptible to water damage.

Guys, locked bootloader and locked service provider (ie locked to Verizon) are two different animals.

The locked bootloader won't affect a thing if you're just like normal people using a phone. You can't install a 3rd party OS which you probably don't want to mess with in the first place.

Now the locked serviced provider is a big problem. It means you are only able to use the phone with that particular provider - Verizon, for example. You're locked to it.

Had this phone for 3 years and traded it for 4a5g with Google last November. It was good for 3;years but was becoming slow after that. I won't recommend this old phone if you install and use lot of apps/browsing. For light use this is great phone. I got trade in for $235 from Google. I would have used it for another year if the trade-in value was not great.
How do you manage to get that high of a trade-in value for such an old phone? I was looking at the Pixel 5 when it was released, but a Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3A all had abysmal trade-in values (below $50).

If it comes back in stock: No, this would totally be an upgrade. Newer Android, Faster CPU, AMOLED screen, MUCH better camera, and free "High Quality" photo storage (aka compressed but still nice) via google photos. Looks great to me in comparison. Plus, if you could flash Lineage or other community updated ROM to it, then the updates will keep coming.
back in stock, opted for the black so if I needed to get updates I could always flash to a diff flavor.

Now just need to research a decent case/screen protector for it.

Thanks again for the feedback on the phone.

The pixel one is the one you need to upload uncompressed pictures.

If it's a locked Verizon phone, don't buy it.

Last system update for this phone was 12/07/2020. Google is no longer updating the pixel 2. Meaning, some phone features will not work properly.

I think this is one of those phones that can easily be degoogled. Install a custom ROM and you should see speed and battery life drastically improve.

I've been meaning to degoogle my phone but haven't found the time to invest.
