Is It Necessary to have a Portable Jump Starter Pack in your Vehicle?

25 22 July 22, 2021 at 12:33 AM in Autos (4)
Own a 2008 Chevy Cruze currently over 120,000 miles, had only one time that battery was drained due to let AC on for 2 hours with the car parked. Now it takes longer and longer to get it started.

Consulted a mechanic friend and it's kinda not worth it to get a brand new battery because we are planing to get a new car next year. Still worried about it and wonder if a jump start pack can make the situation better, or at lease we got a backup plan.

That thought came from an email talking about fanttik t8 apex jump start pack which I have never heard. Did look it up online https://fanttik.com/pages/t8-apex-overview ,the website looks neat tho.

It says pretty much works on any Vehicle up to 8.5L gas and it works as a 65W fast charge power bank as well. Got flashlight on it and some other features. Is it worth to buy? I mean for a jump start pack it seems pretty small, does it really work?

I agree with the suggestion of getting a new battery. You're planning on getting a new car next year, that's a long time to have a car with a dying battery.

Also, I suggest you skip gm products of you're getting something newer. 120,000 miles is near the end for most Chevys nowadays. I suggest either Honda or Toyota for your next car. Yeah, you pay more but they last a real long time.
My 06 GMC Sierra is pushing 300,000 miles
It's predecessor, a 2000 Silverado that had 408,000 on it when I sold it.

An argument could be made about truck quality vs. car quality...

It's always a good idea to have a regularly recharged power bank jump starter in your car. They're not that expensive and good to have for the occasional discharged battery to avoid having to call and wait for AAA or a friend or look for someone to help you. Even better to keep your battery topped off and in good shape and replace it every so often, and deal with parasitic loads and try to remember to power everything off when you park.

I have heard that before, and suspect that there is something to it. Either that or people are more willing to spend money to maintain a truck vs a car. Or maybe because trucks are easier to repair (I have no idea if this is the case any more).

I guess I'm just old. I just keep jumper cables in my cars.

I never have to charge or maintain them.

if you don't keep the cables topped off with headlight fluid, you might have issues when you try to use them.

I find that blinker fluid lasts better and keeps them from oxidizing.

Unless is a GM with LED taillights sold only as a ~$800 assembly that has to get replaced when the blinker fluid is overfilled.
