Update, I can't read…this is the latest
I'm still running the prior version and unless you're playing games on your tv, I don't think there's a huge practical difference for streaming purposes.
This deal actually works out pretty well for me. I just purchased the 32 GB model last week for the same price. So had Best Buy price match for the 64 GB model (against Amazon) and will be returning the 32 GB model this weekend.

But to answer your general question, the primary thing (outside of the new "click wheel" type layout and a faster processor) the newer one has a power button that you can use to turn on/off your connected TV/Audio System with. However…just use Siri to "Turn Off TV" every night (and just "Menu" button to turn on), and works just as fine for me.
