If you have a gaming PC, you don't need a cable anymore (in case you weren't aware)

Yeah, air link or virtual desktop. Virtual desktop is pretty amazing if you haven't tried it

You have to use the in game music with beat saber out of the box, but there is a huuuuge fan site dedicated to mods or you can make your own. Requires minimum hacking

Yea I have no intentions of buying the Link Cable. They already got me for the Elite w/ Battery strap and a VR Cover face cushion as well as I dont even know how many games in the Oculus store when I have a ton in Steam.

Have you tried/compared Virtual Desktop to AirLink?
FYI, you don't need to have an official link cable from oculus. I bought a cheap 15ft knockoff oculus usb3 cable off Amazon and it works great.

I also have used both airlink and virtual desktop without issues. My setup is computer hardwired to router, and then wifi ( 5ghz) 2 rooms away from the router, with only the very rare occasional hiccup in streaming. Also running on a gtx1080. I think you might have something wrong with your setup or settings?

Crap.... Perhaps I do. Guess Ill have to do some more troubleshooting. As I mentioned before I really only play Beat Saber these days and haven't put much time into getting AirLink to work.

You're referring to AirLink? You know, even with a wired/Wifi 6 full Ubiquiti network, being 10ft away from an AP and gaming PC running an RTX 2080 I cant get AirLink to work well/reliably for me. So I've mostly just resorted to native Quest 2 games which thankfully I have Beat Saber for because thats honestly what I play the most of BY FAR.
I can do Virtual Desktop on a 1660 just fine.

Make sure you turn down the resolution on your display if you are using a tv or a high resolution monitor. I would have issues because my PC is connected to my 4k tv running at 4k. Half life alyx would always be a little wonky because it would say my 1070 was out of vram.

That could be part of it.

Yeah I hear you. But if you've got the free time to troubleshoot I'd highly recommend working out the kinks or using a hardwired cable... Opening up the quest to the PCVR game library is a massive step forward esp. If you've got the PC to run the games. I actually don't own any quest standalone games and only PCVR games... Alyx, Elite Dangerous, Onward, DCS World, and soon... Lone Echo Smilie

There's gotta be something gunking up the works somewhere--you might have to fiddle with the bandwidth settings or something. I can use AirLink/Virtual Desktop flawlessly from any room in my house, and it's @#$%ing awesome. Some games work better on AirLink, others on VD, but neither should require too fancy of a setup to get working (especially in the same room). I can even use it through a local hotspot from my gaming laptop's wifi card when I'm out and about.

Half-Life: Alyx completely wireless is amazing.

It's less about the computer hardware (aside from network connection) as it is network connection from your headset to your computer. Latency is the biggest problem people have issues with.

No need to buy the link cable from Oculus. I decent long usbC cable works just fine.

I know this is a basic question, but: I have the quest 2. After I buy this via the website....does it just download to my PC? How do I launch it ? I know you can use virtual desktop , etc, but where does the game download to ? Something like steam launcher ?

One of the best VR games out there at full price. $10 is an absolute steal. Can't wait for the sequel. I played it on a cheap 20' usb cable on Quest2

The last time I looked into this was when quest 2 just came out.... and I thought their new releases since then had trouble getting this to work?
I can't speak to that BUT will say since I bootlegged it, it will no longer update my version of BS. There are workarounds to be had, but honestly the EDM hell that came with it originally is enough of that genre. At last count I have 350+ songs that actually LIKE. I use VD to stream Alyx to my headset. I have a Google wifi mesh system and it works wonderfully when I plug the computer in via Ethernet cable.
