Got this a few weeks ago from Amazon for the same price. Been waiting on the one with the apple tv button but my Roku tv remote stopped working. This thing is far superior than the TCL Roku tv remote. Very similar to the standard remote that comes with the ultra with a few differences. This remote is much lighter without the batteries, it has its own remote finder built in and has a switch to turn always on listening off or on. I say it's a buy but this seems to be Amazon standard price for this and it's been available for a few weeks so this isn't slick in any way but is a good remote
My very first thought. For me this is a solution to a non problem. Having a dock would be much better but still - for how infrequently I need to change the batteries I would rather that than to have to constantly charge it.
My wife just had one delivered today. So far it's pretty nice. Say Hey Roku play a movie and it goes right to it on whatever service you're subscribed to. No need to pick up the remote at all. Yes I'm sure alexa or Google might be able to do this in some kind of way but we don't have that.
The reason we got it was the batteries would die on our Roku remote every 2 months due to using our Roku so much.
I do wish it had Bluetooth wireless headphones capable but it's not a game breaker for us.
It wasn't a bad upgrade overall, but if you don't need it not sure it's worth the price.
The 1 and 2 short-cut buttons are a nice addition. The voice commands work very well, the remote has a nice feel to it, and the lost remote finder is nice.
However, the rechargeable battery life is much less than my two AAA and the user-programmable shortcuts are voice shortcuts. It's not like you are holding it to save YouTube you have to say the commands then save.
I paid around 27 and don't feel like I got ripped off or anything, but I would have been much happier at 20 or less.
I have the 2021 Roku Ultra and the remote has a voice command button. Other than (proprietary USB charging) how is this different?
For me, a proprietary USB charging cable is a non-starter. The last thing I want to do is search for a single proprietary cable or have something happen to that. How hard would it have been to adopt USB-C? I also understand from some reviews that if the remote is dead, it needs to charge a bit before you can even use it. That also seems inconvenient. I use rechargeable AA batteries in my existing remote and that may be a better solution for some.
And arguably the most requested feature improvement wasn't even adopted: Backlit Keys!
EDIT: Not proprietary. Just Micro USB...which is nearly as inconvenient as nothing I have anymore uses this standard. Keeping a "special" cable just for this remote isn't ideal. It would have been a better option to use USB-C.
I also think the remote that comes with the 2020 and 2021 Ultra boxes is the same minus the rechargeable battery.
