I would argue the competition is the exclusive content, if a streaming service makes an awesome show, or owns the rights, I would subscribe just for that. In my case, I subscribe for a month of Disney+ just to watch the Mandelorian. There is no way I want to pay for the ability to watch the best of everything at once, I prefer to be much more deliberate, and targeted with my streaming subscriptions. This is also a way for us to vote on what type of show the consumer actually wants to see.
Does that mean that the software that powers the platform not be patentable because features like simultaneous viewing are not part of the product? I imagine that the big players would take issue with copying new features if they actually invested in creating them. These services seem to want to control their software innovations and their content exclusivity. But those products are different yet permanently linked together.
If you don't like the UI of Netflix, but you want to watch their exclusive content you can't vote with your dollars and watch it someplace else. That's the issue I have with it. Innovation in streaming service platforms is being held back it's not as important as the content.
We didn't stand for in other industries and now I can use any phone I wish on any network I want. And the industry understands this which is why I can buy some movies on iTunes and then watch them on Vudu.
The argument that the streaming services are somehow different just doesn't make sense to me. Because they wouldn't be as profitable? I am not sure how much sleep I will lose over a company that refuses to invest in the customer experience.
so for sure I did it right this is what it says in more detail in my account:
Paramount+ Plan
Premium (Monthly) Trial
Add-Ons
Add SHOWTIME to your subscription
Price
$9.99/month
Discount
50% off 2 Months
Next Billing Date
August 24th, 2021
Also I see something next to the date it says save over 16 percent(Switch to annual) whatever that means
Also, the robust competition and variety of price tiers and business models reduces piracy, as the barrier to entry is lowered for those who can't resist how much more convenient it is to stream content legitimately than to pirate it. Of course, some piracy will always exist because some people just can't or won't pay for their content, but it makes no sense to say more businesses competing with each other increases piracy.
