Per the reviews, the expired film works just fine, and Adorama and B&H are far from fly-by-night companies, so I think there's little risk. But just wanted to conjecture as to why it's so cheap.
B&H also has the Stripes packs [bhphotovideo.com], expired 12/2020, for $4.99. I got two of each from B&H to not have to pick up the phone for Adorama
Excellent price OP!

Thanks OP!
Instax tends to be good for at least 12-18 months past the expiration (YMMV based on how it's stored. It's sensitive to heat). Minimal loss of contract and color.
I used to buy expired film in bulk and once you hit the 2 year mark is where you start to run into problems. Very hit or miss at that point - many packs will work totally fine but then you'll get packs where the ink pods will pop while ejecting from the camera and gum up the internals which are very hard to clean on these. It affects future photos also unless you completely clean the rollets out.
Seems to be a bigger issue with the Instax wide film but happens on the mini also. For the price, it's worth taking a chance.
For actual polaroid brand film, I can't suggest any expired film as it gets damaged by heat/cold incredibly easy and is already very iffy by the time it hits expiration date. Instax is much better for that.
