There absolutely is a grind in the 7-9 book range, but it's worth powering through. Especially when you get to the Brandon Sanderson written books (last 3).
I appreciate the massive spoiler.
Ok deal, picked up 4 and 5. I'm almost finished with one and I'm hooked.

Wonder if the whole series will go on sale as Amazon gets closer to launching their live action series

I remember being a fan in high school, but I'd have to warn new readers of the writing style and "fillers". There's a lot of pointless purple prose that goes beyond the term. Like, there would literally be chapters where literally nothing happens and it's a waste of time. Book 6-10 like someone mentioned are pretty infamous, and each books can be summed in up one or two sentences, which is kind of sad.

Someone needs to make a movie of this series or something without all the nonsense, because there's so much potential here. Great characters, magic system, world building, and so on. It's only ruined by the senseless writing, where the author does nothing but describe how the characters are walking and complaining throughout the whole book without anything ever happening.

Rolled two dice to see if I should purchase, came up as a 1.

Having read the physical books and lugging them around for several moves.... a kindle version sounds like a dream.

Not a good deal unless you really have to read these now. They've frequently dropped to $1.99-2.99.
I'm not sure this comment is accurate. Looking at eReaderIQ, the Dragon Reborn's lowest price is $5 and that happened in 2015. The entire series was down to the $65 range at one point in 2015--wish I had jumped on that. I believe the Eye of the World individual price has gone lower, however.

It's possible there was a different Kindle version that is no longer listed that achieved a lower price in the past.

Gotta share my Robert Jordan story.

I was in high school. Around 1993 and my friends were HUGE into Robert Jordan. (not sure how I wasn't roped in)
Then they find out Robert Jordan is coming to our town to do a book signing deal. It's all I heard about for a month.
I was excited for them. The day after I'm all like - how was it??? It was the classic never meet your idols moment for them. haha. They were like - he was a grumpy old man. Wish I could remember more specific criticism but that was the gist of it. haha. I don't think his books were ever the same for some of them.
