Shows my ignorance. I wasn't aware that cmr was a higher level than cl2. Thanks.

Cannot be used in ceiling space or attics. In that case, use Plenum.
Where are u getting attic / ceiling info from ?
Plenum spaces have breathable air routed through them by AC. Attic / ceilings for houses are generally not that.

I think cat 6 can handle 10Gbps for something like 160 feet and cat 6e for almost double that? There's not a ton of devices that have 10Gbit ethernet though... 2.5Gbit ethernet seems to just be starting to catch on which is a bummer. Theoretically just running two WD blacks sn850's in raid 0 could saturate or come close to (didn't do the math) a 10Gbps line with little to no room to spare.

If I do recall correctly however, 10Gbps ethernet is prone to interference, and also has a much higher power draw than fiber lines. I do hope it catches on much faster, though.
A single SN850 could easily saturate a 10Gb connection. Those push 5GB per second, which is approx the data rate of a 40Gb connection.

Your link is CCA cable, aka copper cladded aluminum, which comes with a plethora of issues and is inferior to this product.
On top of that, CCA cable doesn't meet CAT5/6+ standards. All CAT standards call for Copper, not "cladded". How sellers get away will selling this CCA crap is beyond me. The Monoprice stuff is decent cable.

Looks like a good deal but for a bit of future proofing I would go for cat 6e
Well, Technically there is no EIA/TIA CAT6E standard, that's a marketing made-up standard.
Also unless you know what you are doing, and install the cabling to the standard, you most likely wont "test" out any better than a decent, but easier for the DIY 5E installer.

Personally, if I need over 1GB, You can trunk, you can go Fiber (best), or you can use Coax (shorter runs). I've done Enterprise IT for 25 years, and the standard we use today is 5E to the desktop, Fiber between the switches/routers, and Coax or Fiber from the Server to the Switches. You'll be amazed at how many computers it takes to truly saturate a 1GIG connection.

Correct!
Open Plenums are rarely (if ever) used in homes, if you have metal or flex ducts (a modern HVAC system usually does). You don't need Plenum rated cable. Usually the only time you see a plenum is in a large (usually multi-story) building that's using the space between a drop ceiling or similar as part of it's air distribution system. And even in those cases, PVC can be used, as long as it's in conduit!

You can't use PVC in those systems as they pull air from the open plenum, so if the cable was on fire, it would distribute toxic smoke. Since Home HVACs usually have a return that's pulling from the living space... there's no need for plenum rated cable.

I just ran 2000' of this stuff in my new house... it's legit - very well made. I had a terrible time working with cat6 heads though. The 23awg strands are thicker than what most of the heads you'll find will accommodate. The heads with inserts were especially problematic for me. Oddly, what worked best (and easiest) was the single piece Ideal cat5e heads you can get at Lowes. They're a tight fit, but the 23awg wires still fit and the simplicity of it is worth it.

Any legit cat6 jack/keystone/panel should have no problem with 23 gauge wire which is the standard for cat6.
I've had zero issues with these

Would never really happen because the fire dampers close and air handlers shut down on fire alarm Wink

I wouldn't buy monoprice cable. They have a recall on the last batch I got. It's everywhere in my brand new house. What I am I suppose to do? Literally rip out all my drywall?
