I run mine on a UPS. Keeps the modem, router and OBI up in a power outage.
Been using mine for the home office, been rock solid since day 1.

1) Buy this box
2) Sign up for Google Voice [google.com]
3) Register your new box and connect Google Voice [youtube.com]
4) Optional: Sign up for 911 service [gv911.com] if you need it

I am using this phone [amazon.com] as a wired desk phone with a good speakerphone.
Ahh …. with a 6" touch screen with cameras on both sides with a finger print reader and a store just for little programs …..

I think you got something there 🤣

It would be cool if they had a battery powered one that can be used when the power goes out

depends on wattage but my ups at 625va has an estimated runtime of an hour on battery with 30 watts plugged in (router, modem, etc.).

If you are asking, to compare with your system, note that his experience will definitely vary from you, let's say he say's "for 2 hours", it might be just 30min or 4hrs in your case depending on equipment power draw, and depending on the UPS that you use.

If you are planning to get a UPS, asses the consumption of your devices then get the UPS that meets your requirements. I found this UPS calculator online [eaton.com], but have never used, it might help you understand what you may need.

The smaller it is the less it'll work. You could always use a LiFePO4 or AGM battery with an inverter and a trickle charger, if you want it to last longer, but I don't think it would be seamless. You could have your own "solar generator" backup that way. I don't know about cannibalizing one with a bad battery and hook up an oversized one, but I know you should be careful about what battery you use when it's charging.

So, I haven't messed with VoIP services. Are you saying that, depending on your service, you could have a free phone service once you pay up front? Mom always forgets her phone somewhere or nobody will answer their cellphone. If I could put this in her house, I might be able to get ahold of someone.

That would be cool. Could my nearly blind grandmother plug her big button phone into it?

This is geared toward using Google Voice's free service. Not super intuitive to set up, but not horrible. In the end, yes, you have a free analog phone line with this. I have my cordless Panasonic phone base plugged into it. GV doesn't do 911 calls, but there are other paid VOIP providers you can choose from that do.
