To folks who are new to TP-Link's Omada, it basically a clone of Ubiquiti's Unifi (prosumer/enterprise networking equipment)

Its ecosystem includes a router (you can use your existed router), a controller (a must need; which is used to manage and adopt all APs and switches, and it can be self-hosted), switches, and access points. Additionally, Ubiquiti also has Protect line which is CCTV.

To Dealfinder2012: yes and no. Yes because you can get multiple Omada's APs; Wifi 5, Wifi 6 all work together as one seamless system. No, I have not heard about Omada running as a stand-alone So you cannot hook up to your existed system and use it as a range extender. However, you can hook it up to the router and set it up as a stand-alone AP.

To ispeed : AP-LR is a really really old AP. Since you already have Unfi's equipment (you have AP-LR, I guess you already have USG and Cloud Key), depending on your budget it is better to get a used AP-AC-LR if your range is enough. If not, you can buy 2 used AP-AC-PRO for $60/each on subreddit r/homelabsales or r/hardwareswap or craigslist, etc. Resell value of Ubiquiti's equipment is still high, almost always. You must check their speed, both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, and range cater to your need. If you changed to TP-Link's Omada, you would need to get more equipment anyway.

To BuyMoreChuck: no, you cannot use it to piggyback off another router's signal to extend it. It is a whole ecosystem, you can add as many APs from different Omada's models together as you need. That is how they make $$$ and called it ENTERPRISE.

I have UDM Pro, Wifi 6 Lite AP, and NanoHD. Purchased a Omada's switch and run their software controller in a VM, Unifi is still better. Not being bias, their APs and switches are rock solid. However, the router is kinda trash. Let alone their breach, search it for more info.

thanks michrech for clarification. I will edit this to avoid anyone else misunderstanding.
This is absolutely not true. The TP-Link EAP series APs can be used without the Omada controller. You lose the ability to configure multiple APs simultaneously, and possibly some other advanced features. I have two EAP225's running in my mothers home, stand alone, without any issues.

UniFi cannot "piggyback" off another router's signal. Some of the UniFi APs do support wireless uplink, but it only works with other UniFi APs (as far as I understand the feature).

Be very careful that you don't expect 1200 mbps with the included POE inserter. It's a dumb injector and will drop you to 100mbps max on the line. If you use a smart POE switch it will give you gigabit.
Whats your source? I use mine and i get the stated speeds.

I setup Unifi at office, and bought 2 of these 2 weeks ago. Omada sounds cool, but if you don't use their router, it's pretty hard to get them working with any "advanced" setup. Meaning, it's easy and fast to setup with mobile phone app just by themselves, but when I install controller software on pc and try to add vlan and all other stuff, they just get disconnected and not way to get them to work. I don't have their router so my experience is very limited, but I ended up returning them. If you need awesome wifi at home, the consumer wifi6 mesh models maybe better because you probably don't need the complicated features and don't need the multiple concurrent connection. Wired connection is always superior.
Sounds like you may have setup your VLANs incorrectly. Its very easy to lock yourself out of a VLAN during config.

I have 1 of these APs running in stand-alone mode (no controller) with 2 physical LANs + 3 VLANs; no other Omada devices. I run the AP behind an OPNsense router. Configuring the AP for my somewhat advanced setup was easy and straight forward; though I did already have VLANs working on my network.

which wifi6 mesh models are you referring to?
something like this?
https://slickdeals.net/f/15182698-netgear-orbi-pro-wifi-6-mini-mesh-system-sxk30-router-with-1-satellite-extender-for-199-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Have seen WiFi 6 (not 6e) for sale around $240 for a 3-pack, that's $80 a pop, not dirt cheap, but you get more out of that than enterprise AP like this if you dont' intend to play with it in a home lab setting. But if you do want to do home lab, yeah, do it with Ubiquiti or Mikrotik stuff. my experience with the 2 Omada AP really put me off.

I had the opposite experience. I have two EAP245 APs with the harware controller using an ER-X and a Cisco 2960 PoE switch running four vlans and never had the first issue.

As someone else mentioned, I'm using the included POE injectors and they are not limiting my connection to 100mb. I have 300mb cable internet and can regularly get over 300mbps on 5ghz.

I was late for the deal as I'm new to this product (was looking for an AP for a few months but not familiar with TP-Link products). Lenovo sales gave me $50 quote via chat. Not the best but I took it as I need it now.

There's a chat option on their webpage and I asked them to let me buy at $45 but they said the best they can do is send me a quote for $50. During checkout process, there's no way I can apply a coupon, it's not in the cart so I can't use cashback website either. You can use Discover/Paypal to get 5% CB though.
