Y'all going to wait a long time cuz SSB games never go down just check melee prices on ebay even just the case cost 30$
You might be in the minority because most people, including myself, think it's the best in the series. There's some hardcore players that will argue Melee is the best but Melee is a VERY broken game mechanically and they only like it because they like exploiting that jank.
Ultimate is definitely a better experience than the 3DS game. Plays a bit faster than it but not as fast as Melee, which I think was a bit too fast anyway.

The actual fighting mechanics are the star here. Everything has been ironed out beautifully and feels good. It's simple enough that someone who's only played Smash 64 can still pick it up and do decent, but it has enough complexity that you'd have to dedicate hundreds of hours of your life to master all the pro techniques.

The 3DS game also held back on a lot of content because they had to condense it down to fit on a small cartridge. Ultimate is packed with content even if you only play single player. It has tons of characters and stages and spirits to fight and a full campaign and a classic mode that's unique to every character and all the usual special events like the home run contest. They really put a lot of effort into this one.

The worst thing about Ultimate is the online. I mean, I'm glad it has online, but Nintendo's servers are still horrible. You'd think they'd invest some of that Switch money they're rolling in into improving their servers but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

I'll wait till BF for $30-40 price point. Game is nearly 2 years old.

It doesn't matter thanks to backlogged library of game.

It could, once they release a complete edition that includes all the DLC characters. Then it *might* hit $40… it's Nintendo so they always charge nearly full price.

I doubt Nintendo would consider losing their cash cow dlc in favor for a full version for less money. Nintendo has shown time and time again they don't care about the fans just like the weak 3d Mario collection we got.

Also Melee is getting harder to play legitimately as the discs are wearing out and GameCubes are starting to hit the DVD diode end-of-life point.

The shitty thing about this pricepoint is you still have to factor in all the DLC prices to get the actual complete package. Still works out to be like $90 all in

Honestly, you don't need any of the fighter packs. There's enough content in the base game to keep you busy and get good with at least one of the 74 characters included.

I only bought the first pack but I've barely even played with any of those characters. So when the second pack rolled around I figured I'd wait for it to go on sale if I ever do get it.

But the lack of 12 characters and 11 stages won't do anything to minimize your enjoyment of the game. And if you really want one specific character you can always just buy them alone.

Interesting. What do you suggest for someone like me used to enjoy fully played smash 64 as a kid and smash bros 3ds as a adult but find 3ds version so-so or lackluster?
