I always wondered this, and so I started comparing between Grubhub and dine-in menu. I never found prices to be different. I do feel badly, because Grubhub takes a big cut of their money. And of course delivery and tip is an extra cost.

Perhaps there is state or city legislation that prevents this is some locations?

Was having trouble logging into GrubHub so I tried the seamless app and the offer was there, worked for me (NYC)

Edit: messaging said through 2021 but then I got a notification that it was a 30 day trial and it appears to expire in October 2021.

I think depends on the restaurant, some pass the additional costs on to customers, others eat the cost out of their profits, at the end of the day either the consumer or small business owners loses or both of them lose, the big companies like seamless, Uber eats and grub hub get their share of the profits

I own a ghost kitchen and without these apps I wouldn't be making the insane money I'm making. Restaurants need to evolve and learn how to lower there expenses if your gonna use a app like GH

I have Grubhub+ membership however the menu prices at each restaurant on grubhub app is showing $3 or $4 more than the regular price at the actual restaurant. Seriously what is the point of offering a monthly membership if you are increasing the prices ???
I've only used these apps on occasion so it never dawned on me that the prices were slightly higher on GrubHub than the actual restaurant prices until I created an order for a common dish that I always buy on the restaurants main app. It turned out to be approx $4 more. It could be just some restaurants so do your research.

I always tip so when you factor in tip + inflated prices for a PICKUP order, it's just not worth it. Order directly via restaurant website/app or call in when you can unless there's your typical $10 off $20 offer which negates those inflated prices and tip.

Just a note on the free $10 pickup meal (even though it's not included in the free trial). Most restaurants in my area have disabled pickup orders the week the $10 email comes out. This month my only options were gas station chicken and Panera. I've used the free pickup code after the code expires (I think it expires after 10 days. It's in fine print at the bottom of the email) but I have to get customer service to give me a credit every time. But then I can use it on any restaurant.

This membership only makes sense if you order grubhub 3x a week and there is no other option to get whatever food it is that you can't live without. I used to have it when the delivery fee was a substantial part of the order but now it's the lowest fee here in California.

Just for kicks I put together a quick cart with $16 worth of food at a local cafe. They want $3 in 'tax and fees' including a 5.25% 'service fee' and $2.50 in 'drivers benefits' on top of the delivery fee. When you click on the fees information, they claim sales tax is $2.12 which only makes sense if they're charging sales tax on the delivery fees and driver benefits too. Who does this?

Nah, grubhub is dead to me.

Considering the web platform provides an outlet and a new means for small businesses to expand their reach from traditional customer base, ride-share food deliveries are not going away anytime soon. Therefore, why can they not collect a commision from the small business who FREELY opts to use their service??

If they don't like the fees, don't belong. 20 years ago you'd never call the newspaper up and tell them you want a full block for your business and not expect to pay for the advertising, same applies today.
