At 11.6" and a mediatek processor, shouldn't this price be retail? I got multiple 13" Intel (or was it AMD?) Chromebooks for $179 6 months ago. Those Seem like a better deal, and the price lasted for a while at Walmart. Seems like this 24 hour deal is just push for people to impulse buy

I'm using an MT8173C with half the cores and slower memory, so... yes.

If the MT8183 isn't enough, you're waiting for these [mediatek.com].

Web browsing is definitely not all you can do on a Chromebook these days. You should get one and see just how capable they really are.
True, they do have Android app support now.

When you look at the specs, remember this is Chrome OS, not Windows. Web browsing is pretty much all you can do with it, and you'll get a much smoother experience with weaker specs than the same thing on Windows. I wouldn't make it my daily driver, but for kids, or a lightweight web browser when you're away from your big powerful gaming desktop, it could be fine.
Many normal people, i.e. no SD laptop posters, don't go through the day at 100% cpu usage. For those vast portions of the day where you are on the web a Chromebook is certainly a great tool with zero upkeep.

Don't you need an ARM chip for that

And Beta Linux app support - good for ad-free casual games, Libre office, GNUmeric spreadsheet, etc. Most Linux apps run well on low specs.

Mediatek processors are ARM-based.

Many but not all apps work on a Chromebook. Older ones did not even have play store but all new ones do.

Chrome is much better than on a tablet/phone. Other apps as well are more like Windows than a phone. Why they are so popular they can do most of what people want to do.

Anyone know if this model comes with an IPS display? The specs on HP's website don't say, but this review refers to an option on the 32GB model:

https://chromeunboxed.com/hp-chro...ing-review
HP's illustrated parts catalog [hp.com] shows 2 LCD display panels available for the "HP Chromebook 11a na-0000" series:
- non-IPS, non-touch, 1366x768, 220nit brightness, 45% NTSC
- IPS, touch, 1366x768, 220nit brightness, 50% NTSC

The model on sale, being non-touch, obviously uses the non-IPS panel. Most likely the vast majority of mass retailers will only carry the cheaper, non-touch, 4/32GB version. Versions with IPS touch and/or 4/64GB will likely be low volume and unlikely to appear in any sale.

I just found a IPS touch, 4/32GB version, model 11a-na0040nr at Office Depot for a reasonable $170 [officedepot.com], which is $30 less than the pretty much identical 11a-na0060nr [hp.com] on HP.com and elsewhere. HP has a list of Chromebook 11a-na0000 series models [hp.com] for those interested (OP's 11a-na0010 is not on there for some reason).

That is still a low-end, dim IPS display. No surprise as 90+% of these Chromebooks are going to schools and students where the tight budget often goes to the lowest bidder, and parents are often not knowledgeable of the advantages of IPS and touchscreen like we do). There are better models for those looking for better specs (brighter 1080p display for outdoor use and media consumption, faster CPU, 2-in-1 convertible, more premium build, etc).

I'm not sure what you're specifically asking me, can you clarify? What I have is this Lenovo 100e deal (1366x768 11.6" screen) from 2019 with the MT8173C. Great pre-pandemic purchase, and if I want to step it up I'll probably wait for something with an MT8192 and 8 GB of RAM.

I install Ubuntu on old PCs and laptops and donate them. Even 10 year old machines run faster than these or cheap windows units.

I've found that the keyboards for this size Chromebook/laptop are not suitable for touch typing...only hunt and peck.
11-inch Chromebooks like these come with full-size keyboards. Chromebooks with undersized keyboards are very rare. Asus made a couple tiny convertibles a few years back but I don't think they're available anymore.
