I love the first game.

I don't vehemently hate the second like the maniacs do, but I didn't enjoy the storyline at all. I guess as a result of that, I was dragging myself to get through it, which felt way, way too long. The cycle of gameplay really wore thin for me by the end.

I get what they were trying to do, but it just didn't work for me. YYMV

The fanbase is clearly very divided. I liked TLOU and I thought TLOU2 was just as good if not better. I bought it for $60 and I'd do it again.

Totally. So much fun. Even better than the game at times.

To me, all Naughty Dog games suck, from story line to game operation and interaction.

The Last of Us Part II holds the record for most Game of the Year awards, surpassing previous record holder The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015).[106]"

I don't think you understand the definition of what a flop is.
Sorry to inform you, but that is completely inaccurate. Tlou2 barely broke 4 million in sales. You are thinking of tlou1 which was fantastic because naughty dog wasn't so focused on keeping it woke. Tlou1 sold 20 million

Would I have preferred the story to have been a done different? Sure. I don't have a problem with wokeness or any of that, but my main story concerns were that characters are introduced and killed off with little fanfare. Really feel like they missed the boat on making their deaths feel like they mattered if they're never talked about again after they're dispatched.

In addition, I would have preferred that the chapters actually intersected them a bit more (play as Ellie, then Abby, and repea)t. Would have required some other story tweeks, but it took me a long time to really want to play as Abby for the majority of the second half.

Gameplay is fantastic though from top to bottom. Well worth $20 as it's a long game for sure, just wish the story was a bit tighter.

Thank you to those who clarified what you didn't like about the game. I had heard about the diversity and representation checklist prior to looking into the game myself.

If it makes sense from a storyline perspective and it's not just inclusion for inclusions sake I'm OK with it.

I guess just like Nu God Of War this series is best left as a fond memory.

I found the game fantastic. I liked TLOU but didn't understand the massive hype behind it, I didn't think it was THAT good. This one, wow. I found the storyline quite good, and it elicted some serious emotion and grit. Better than most movies can pull off. Gameplay mechanics are 9.5/10 (some fumbling around to get to different weapons in the middle of battle could be better). You integrate in and out of cut scenes without realizing because cut scenes often involve pressing square, and there is dialogue outside of cut scenes, oh, and right, the graphics are so good they basically look like a cut scene throughout. I groaned when I started playing as Abby, but halfway through the first day as her I realized how incredible the shift in perspective was to fill out the story. I did find the epilogue a bit drawn out for the story, but hey, more gameplay - I'm not going to hate on that.

RE: Killing off characters. I thought the deaths were very realistic - they would happen suddenly in that world, as they did. Not drawing them out or making them grandiose just made it that much more real.

RE: Wokeness. I was waiting for lesbian and trans stuff to be shoved down my throat based on neckbeard rants, but none of that stuff really phased me at all, and I trend toward the middle FWIW.

Fantastic game for $20 (which was what I paid).

What's so woke about this game?

The protagonist is lesbian? That was inferred from the first game DLC.

Or because there is an athletic female character? I guess that makes MMA and Olympics woke too
