Updated to correct typo and new lower price.
Camels alerted me of this. was as good as Aug 2019 when they had 2/$22.
I use the standard ionization 9120 in most places, but use the photoelectric 7010 in occupied bedrooms. On sale, photoelectric costs about twice as much as ionization. I'm still holding out for a hard wired z-wave from First Alert which was supposed to be available this summer.

Really despise though they have battery backup, would really rather just not have to worry about that or be able to remove it, if you have a lot of them and more reason to wonder if they do beep wth is going on (even though the beep counts tell you if it's the battery or not). Now i did have 1 that was chirping at odd times, this seems to be a common issue if battery gets low or goes bad but it could be one of the combo co2 / smoke units i didn't bother to check as it stopped doing it.
Anyways probably have 8 or more they hardwired em all over this place, which includes co2 in certain places, except for one that was beeping at odd times i didn't investigate
so in my experience i've haven't had any pita alarms with these units, 2 old style battery only at my old place frequent kitchen alarms, 8+ photo electric hardwired here haven't heard a peep except a beep from that one which makes me wonder if they work lol

Is it better to use a smoke detector with the zwave built-in or some zwave sound detector that detects the smoke alarm siren? The latter seems more affordable, but I wonder how accurate they are for detecting sirens.
Link regarding a hardwired Zwave, looks like it's been pushed back more: https://community.smart
Others in the ST community have wired in relay sensors that alert smartthings when an interconnect wire goes hot. I'd rather KISS with a detector with it. Ever since Leeo went defunct, I don't have anything for smoke/CO online monitoring.
And for the record, the 3 I have in bedrooms have never falsed. I use ionization near the kitchen.
