How good is this brand? Never heard of it...the fact that it is from Costco is a good thing though

edit: Seems to have decent reviews. Also found this one: https://www.costco.com/axfast-lev...89580.html for $229 which I just bought. Thanks OP!

This was $279.99 after instant rebate not too long ago. In fact, $349 was the regular price up until now, I guess.

Brand isn't super important unless you care about particular smart features. Almost all electric cars manage the charging on-board. Costco return policy makes this great. Also it should be eligible for the 30% federal tax credit when installed (installation costs also eligible).

Edit: corrected 35% to 30%

Input plug is a NEMA 14-50, which most homes commonly use with a dryer. There are some smart 14-50 "splitters" that let you share a single receptacle out there too.
NEMA 14-50 is mostly used for stoves, dryer plugs are usually 30Amp. Since this unit does not appear to have Amp selection it would be dangerous to use it on 30Amp dryer circuit. This EVSE needs wiring/receptacle to be at least 40Amp rated.

I honestly don't care about the smart features...as long as a it's good system with good internal components that's what matters the most to me...
Good to know about the 35% discount! Will I have to submit proof of installation as in an invoice? Thanks!

Wow a smart splitter is more than a charger.

I think you might be referring tothis one [costco.com] instead? It's $279 and currently $229 with $50 OFF which I actually just bought only because it's 20AMP. The one OP linked is 32 AMP.

Sorry, it's 30% not 35%. Clipper creek (a big charger brand) has a good run down of how the credit works: https://clippercreek.com/tax-credits/

Thanks and repped! You answered a question I've been wondering about as I help shop for my parents first electric car. Thought they could save some money by just plugging into an available dryer socket, guess they need to have an electrician add another rated socket. Thanks

Thanks for the useful info! Would it be safe to use the 20 AMP version of this charger with a 20 AMP outlet?

Those ratings are not for continuous use, the rule for continuous use is 80% of the rated output from the outlet. So the MAX here is 16 AMP.

You can still use the 30Amp dryer outlet but the MAX the EVSE should draw is 24Amps. You would also need either a manually switched or automatic switched splitter since these outlets are not designed for frequent re-plugging. There are EVSEs on the market with selectable Amps, and some less expensive models top out at 24Amps.
