When the C9s were released, I screamed "HALLELUJAH!" for G-Sync support. From that point (two or three years ago??) , I thought LG footed-the-bill to include a formal G-Sync chip.
In researching this just now, after Wagg's comments, it turns out to be just generic support for VRR, which is "G-Sync compatible".

Without the chip Gsync uses VESA adaptive sync.
What (if anything) do you lose without the chip?
The chip "guarantees" the display has variable overdrive- but displays without the chip can support that too, it's just not in all of them so it's not unique to the chip being there- more significantly- OLEDs don't need this at all because their GtG is already nearly 0.[/B]
The chip also lets you start your variable refresh range at 30Hz instead of 40Hz- but if you're running resolution/settings that drop below 40 fps refresh you should turn down your settings- or just give up on PC gaming and get a console if you're ok with framerates that low.... so again you're not really getting anything out of the chip assuming your gaming PC is competent.
For a non-OLED, 60Hz native refresh, display- having the chip can do a LOT for you.
For a 120Hz native OLED- I'd bet money folks would find no difference in double-blind A/B testing. (I'm unsure you'd even be able to measure a difference with calibrated testing equipment)

9000+ hours using an LG OLED C6 as primary PC display, plus games, movies, and TV- 0 burn in.
Upgraded to a CX last year- still no burn in and don't expect any.
"..Really the only reason to buy this is if you already don't have a CX/C1 or just want the convenience/feature set of a monitor vs TV. I know it sounds trivial but I'm super over turning my CX on and off as necessary + all the TV garbage...."
I guess maybe once every few weeks a message about some channel change shows for a couple seconds too?
And you don't even really need to turn it on/off at all if you don't want to- you can set it to just go to a black screen if it's idle for however long and it'll light back up when you hit a key or somehting.
