I use a Synology router and the parental controls are phenomenal. Filtering, scheduling, grouping, and reward features have been so helpful the last year and a half using it

I have found this to be the complete opposite of the truth, and that these are affected by significantly fewer vulnerabilities than the more common Netgear, TP Link, etc. routers.

Do you have a source to back up your claim?

for its class, it seems it's one of the best, though a more expensive option since you'll need more like these or their more expensive brothers

When did 10% off become a slick deal? $14? Barely covers sales tax.
This wasn't even available for almost a year because of covid and only being sold 3rd party for jacked up prices. Even when B+H and Amazon brought it back it was being sold for over MSRP. This probably ties the lowest price it's been in the past 2 years. I don't currently need this, but worth posting IMO for those that have Synology setups.

how does this rank for mesh network?
I would say low.

But, The parental controls and remote management are excellent. I use these unit just to do the routing and get a cheaper mesh system.

Would this router require other modules or standalone for mesh?
You would need multiple units of this to make a Mesh network using this system. Look elsewhere if you want a cheap system. Most people would use this solely based upon they want to use the Router's other features.

I want to get this to upgrade my rt26000ac + repeater setup but I feel like synolpgy is really due for an upgrade to wifi6e and would make this obsolete

I also have an RT2600AC and 2 of these mesh points. I really like them. A great feature that hasn't been mentioned yet is they do dual-wan mode. I have used a tethered cell phone as a backup connection, for example, and the router can fail over to it. Many ways to set it up, but I still am amazed at that feature.

Asus' mesh implementation is trash compared to Synology
:trash as? ...

been in merlin firmware with asus-mesh,
I have one dedicated "linux router" and 3 tmobile AC1900 (flash with asus mesh capabilty with merlin-asus) 1 AP with 2 nodes

old asus-mesh version was not good, but recent 2-3 years are solid for me,

if you have tmobile AC1900 (with mesh capability), make SURE to use wire backhaul due to tmobile AC1900 has dual not triple channel ( one channel for wireless backhaul).

bough years back for "cheap" $60, $40, $40 :-D.

I think the cheapest mesh system was tmobile AC1900 (flash to be real ac68u mesh capabilitiy and asus-merlin) which rebranded asus.
well spent for $140 for 3 in the past for me.

I've been eyeing these for years. Really like the feature set. Heard mostly positive things about the UI. My current router though still hasn't failed me so I'm holding out for a deal on a WiFi 6 router. For the price this thing is tempting but wow it has only a single LAN port and since it's not WiFi 6 that together is a deal breaker. I would need a switch to pair it with and that's more money. It's so odd they didn't include 3 or 4 LAN ports like most residential routers I've looked at in the past. Perhaps that's a developing trend with mesh routers.
The AC2600 Has 4 ports, these are meant to be mesh points.

I have an 1800' 2 story home with my 2 mesh points downstairs on the opposite side of the house and speed test 90Mbps from the mesh points... that is outstanding for AC mesh points.

I read lots of positive comments about good router.
But, few things.
Which mesh router comes as single unit.
After using Orbi RBR50 mesh with satellite for more than two years.
Which in general really good, except I noticed with mesh network, Chromebooks and few other devices having difficulty connecting them.

After using it for more than two years, I think, I found mesh network a overrated.
After using Asus routers for years, I can tell that they are best routers and I am planning to go back to Asus AX6000, just waiting for a deal.
Plus I can use my old Asus router as A-mesh system.

90Mbps seems pretty low. Wi-Fi 5 AC maxes out around 550Mbps on most devices, so you might need more nodes.

My internet is only 400MBps... 4k streaming only needs 40MBps... So streaming opposite side of my house on another floor 4k without buffering, I am happy.

I also have 20 +iot smart devices and security cameras on my mesh network too.

But you need to buy 2 units so for about 200 you can do better if you want better overall wifi coverage for the same dollar amount. You won't however get the interface and software package.

Could anyone share if the AC2600 has any privacy concerns?

I have read some review comments saying 1) the internet traffic would be under surveillance through connection to Synology's app and 2) there is an agreement that you need to accept that PRC/China is allowed enter your premises, search through your books, files, records, and papers so that PRC may confirm for themselves that you are not stealing their software.

Dude, I am 20 year veteran IT Consultant.

While security and Networking is not my specialty... I regularly work shoulder with those teams.

For home use Synology is excellent. They have had far less code exploits than Qnap or Cisco. The routers have built in IDS/IPS, add in cloudflare anti-malware DNS, and block foreign connections... And I don't think you can find a better consumer grade secure router.

Unless you want to dedicate hardware to pfsense or take something home from work this is a great solution.

I have an AC2600 and two of these mesh Synology's I use as wireless bridges for 4k streaming off my Synology and I never have buffering issues.

These are a great value for the cost.
