Great deal, although these regularly go down to $200 so the discount isn't as amazing as it seems. They're great lil units for adding some power to a campsite, but if you're going to use these for a home or rv, you should be eyeing the larger 2000w class generators.

This one has a built-in inverter versus the regular generator that harbor freight sells. Translation: Don't use the harbor freight one for sensitive electronics

Had one for 6-mo. Bought at HD sale. It is very quiet, starts on first pull and was able to charge phone and run a cooling fan. Very good on gas, easy to carry around. No real smoke or strong exhaust smell from mine. I've ran it on Super tech synthetic 10w30 oil. First oil change was done after 2 hours of break in running. Was working great since then.

Air is too thin for the carb there, leading to too much fuel in the air/fuel mixture. I've had some success running it with a partial choke, of course at reduced power.

This is not a bad find at this price but not a generator I would trust. Do a nice thorough break-in before the warranty expires so you know you don't have a lemon. Other than that, easy to start and quiet. Probably not going to get 1000 watts out of it tho.
Believe it or not, it'll surge to 1000w repeatedly without complaining

I'm hoping you're right. My first one didn't like anything above 600 and started puking oil out the tailpipe. My second one is still in the box (warranty replacement). I have high hopes for the second one.

What happens if you buy two of these? Can you get 2000 W out of them?

This is not parallel capable, so, no.

Can I run a coffee maker and/or a fan + lights with this in a campground without being too loud?

Ah, you might have over filled the oil. The oil marker on this model is kind of garbage, try emptying it and filling it by a measuring cup. Then if it slews oil, let it run at high capacity for a while.

The jet size in the carb. You might be able to get a high altitude jet for the carb.
I've tried looking into this, but can't find anything. I already bought one last year and I want to use it at 10,000 feet (WY),. I'm worried it won't even start at that altitude. Any tips on finding more about jetting this generator?

Do you think this would work at 10,000 feet? I understand reduced power, but would it still run?

I don't think any manufacturer sells small engine equipped mower/snowblower/generator with a big warning not to operate it it over 10000 foot. I failed to understand why this would be a real issue.

Have you operated a generator at that altitude? I sure haven't, and looking in online forums you will find that the actual practice of running at that altitude often results in a fouled plug in a vert short time period or they can't get theirs to start. The link you posted is for Honda generators which have available jetting kits that I cannot find for this generator. If there is a jetting kit for it that I am unaware of, I'd sure like to know. Maybe it will work fine, but the trip I'm planning has very little room for gear and I'd like to not take a generator that would be potentially useless. Thanks for your reply. Cheers.

I agree, although I have this exact generator and it powers my big french door fridge without trouble.

Modern fridges (within the last 10-15 yrs) don't tend to use as much power as their old counterparts. I put mine on a kill-a-watt and even when the condenser is running, it only pulls about 125W

Most likely, but it depends on your fridge - see above (you may have to turn "Economy mode" off)

You are correct. While sometimes the plate will only list maximum running current, the unit itself might be a bit less (depending on environment). Only way to tell is with Kill-a-Watt.

I have this generator and 1000W is max surge. It is rated 800W continuous and before buying I read that someone took it apart and the inverter module is really only good for 700-750.

Therefore I wouldn't expect anything more than 700W for reliable operation.

2000W would be a much safer bet (although more expensive) for your portable.
I'm the person who took this generator apart, on Day 1, even before adding oil.
I did so to check & verify several things, one being the watt rating on the inverter module. Even the included manual listed the inverter module as only having a 700 watt limit rating (NOT 800 watts, nor 1000 watts). See attached pic for manual's 700 watt inverter module rating. (0.7kw = 700 watts)
I did numerous load tests upon running the generator and found it would only put out approx 675-685 watts before the engine cut out (stopped) due to "overload". All tests were done with stable 'resistance-type' loads. Therefore, the top wattage I could get out of this generator (as many others have also experienced) was 685 watts MAX.

I highly doubt that, as I've done extensive wattage testing with mine. (See above, also).

I believe these are a BIG YMMV, with many only putting out in the range of 600-700 watts, at best. Some may get lucky and get one that ends up putting out more, but I believe those are the exception, rather that the rule.

Anybody know how queit this model is? I read 48 to 60 db is a general range for inverter units. The description on this one says 57. I want one that is truely quiet.
The Honda and Yamaha are quieter. These sound a tic more metallic to me.

Depends on your fridge, and how much extension cord your running.
