Wow! This is a great price for this game. It's not for the feint of heart, but a really fun game. Think of it as similar to the co-op board game Pandemic, but love craft themes and with many more fun elements and a lot more story. You choose a character and adopt their backstory and stats, and then all players work together to defeat monsters and close portals before the big baddie awakens. It's possible to beat the game at that point but much more difficult. If you play this game with all new people, it can take around 2 hours. If you're playing with veterans or very experienced board game players it can be around one hour and is very satisfying and fun. Never under any circumstances play with someone who isn't really into board games or who you think will lose interest halfway through. That will make for a bad time for everyone involved, haha. Beautiful pieces and game art, fun mechanics. You can feel like you're playing Lovecraft DND but without all the work, haha. I will also say that this game has way too alter difficulty that works really well so the replay-ability is great.

This is Eldritch Horror. The card game is Arkham Horror. They're both set in the same universe but they play pretty differently.

Story-wise, the Eldritch games tend to focus on big apocalyptic world events and play kind of like Pandemic in that you're hopping around the world to contain threats. While the Arkham games are more self-contained stories set in a single town or county in which you're just trying to survive while uncovering how to stop the threat, all told through cards.

They're honestly very different experiences and it's hard to say which is better since it all depends on your personal preferences. If you're in it for the story and like reacting to situations with the items you have in hand, then Arkham Horror is probably a better fit. But if you're more interested in a typical board game experience where you're moving characters around a board, then Eldritch Horror is probably better. Both are great games in their own categories though.

Just be warned that they both have a ridiculous amount of add-ons. And you can easily spend a few hundred dollars on each if you want to play everything available.

I'm torn, my buddy had this and we played it twice and had some good fun with it. I hear the card game plays better though. Anyone care to weigh in on this deal and if you would buy the card game over this?

Elder Sign is another card game in this universe. It's our group's fave, but we've played and enjoyed all of these.

Thanks, I've been eyeing this for a couple years! The price has now dropped to $30.11 on both sites as well!

I like both, but Eldritch is the better game for me. AH3e is more scenario based and EH is more variable.

So I will start with this game is one of my favorites but it is reasonably complex and long, i would not recommend this for people only just getting into this style of games. If you like the sound of the monsters and lore of HP lovecraft by the game eldersign first its cheaper and easier to learn but has the same feel and characters etc and would be a good first step.

Fantasy Flight Games make a whole bunch of cooperative games in the Lovecraft universe. It can be pretty hard to keep track of them all, so here's a brief summary:
Eldritch Horror (this game) - A standard dudes on a map cooperative board game. Imagine Pandemic but with Lovecraftian monsters and the difficulty and complexity turned up to 11. It's actually a revised version of...
Arkham Horror - The predecessor to this game. It's longer, messier, and even more random. Some people swear it's still the better game.
Arkham Horror The Card Game - This is a story driven episodic card game (a "living card game"). If you aren't going to play through multiple episodes with the same group you will miss out on the best part of the game. Despite being named almost the same, it shares only the universe with "Arkham Horror", they are very different kinds of games.
Mansions of Madness - Arkham Horror light. This is probably the best place to enter into the FFG Arkham universe. It's still a "dudes on a map" game, but it comes with an app that takes care of a lot of the bookkeeping that's required for a complex cooperative board game.
Elder Sign - I've never played it. But, it sounds like if you want an even lighter card game set in this universe, here it is.

Pretty good synopsis of the universe. I'll add:

Elder Sign - Pretty much Yahtzee with a Lovecraft twist and probably the lightest game of them all. There's a bit of storytelling but not nearly as much as any of the other games.

To add to the confusion, there are currently 3 different editions of Arkham Horror (not card game) and 2 different editions of Mansions of Madness. All of them play different from their other versions.

This is a BIG game once everything is set up. Make sure you have a lot of play space for it.

I have all expansions for Eldritch Horror. This is a great price for a great co-operative game. It has multiple skill levels that can be adjusted for play experience as well the Mythos Deck that can be further adjusted. As others have said, it is NOT a game for the inexperienced board game player, or those who don't enjoy punishing game mechanics. Even successes (especially if you are playing on the harder difficulty levels) involve some sort of determent. The game is about various Lovecraftian end of the world events -- everything is going wrong and you get to play characters that are broken/compromised/complicit in some way. The narrative that the modular game world creates is very memorable, the choices between bad things that you have to make difficult, and the wins (that is if you do win) very satisfyingly. Expect to loose and enjoy it.

Forsake Lore is a necessary expansion if you decided to go beyond the core set or if you just like the base game. It really rounds out the core game.
