I'm ignorant. Is this just so I can play music in my ears even louder?

Edit: Aaah yes, bring on the "unhelpful" votes. I was seeking help, not looking to help. 😀
Ha! Well kind of. If you have expensive fancy headphones, they actually require more power to sound good. That's not necessarily louder.

Kind of like v2 on a motorcycle is enough power to make it go fast, but in a truck you need a V8 to get similar performance. Similar idea.

Unless your headphones are upwards of $600 you probably are ok with whatever setup you have. The whole DAC/AMP world is the next level of audiophilia.
I disagree. There are headphones that are not electrically efficient starting around 200ish (the Sennheiser hd 600 series for example are about 300ohm and require lots of power to sound good). They kind of suck if you plug them straight into a computer or phone or whatever.

If you purchased the HE6se v2 from the Adorama deal, this works very well with it.
I bought it for $350 and thought it was a great purchase. At $250 it's a steal.

yeah, i picked up a set of pricey head phones and an amp last week. i only bought it because it was a good deal. but man is it worth it. the sound is incredible, some music sounds like im listening to it for the first time, you can really get lost in your music with it.

also might be overkill but ive been using it with my PS5 and it really helps you become immersed in the game.

lol, as soon as I read the first response I knew someone would counter.

In general, he's right and answering the question for a lay-audience, there's no benefit to getting into the minutia of the headphone game when someone starts a question with, "I'm ignorant."

Don't waste money on this amp, a schiit Asgard will do so much better for $50 less

Currently using a Mixamp 2017 (Astro) with 599's...but it's starting to die.

This yay or nay?

Disclosure: I do not have the Monolith THX AA amplifier.

HOWEVER - the Asgard (and Asgard 2), while very good amps, are not balanced. So if you want to run a fully balanced system you'd actually have to run the Jotunheim, at $399.

How much better? Have you tried both? Can you post some measurements? How about SINAD for both?

This amp doesn't have a fully balanced (i.e., symmetric and separate, from input to output) signal path either…
