I'm ignorant. Is this just so I can play music in my ears even louder?

Edit: Aaah yes, bring on the "unhelpful" votes. I was seeking help, not looking to help. 😀

Ha! Well kind of. If you have expensive fancy headphones, they actually require more power to sound good. That's not necessarily louder.

Kind of like v2 on a motorcycle is enough power to make it go fast, but in a truck you need a V8 to get similar performance. Similar idea.

Unless your headphones are upwards of $600 you probably are ok with whatever setup you have. The whole DAC/AMP world is the next level of audiophilia.

I disagree. There are headphones that are not electrically efficient starting around 200ish (the Sennheiser hd 600 series for example are about 300ohm and require lots of power to sound good). They kind of suck if you plug them straight into a computer or phone or whatever.

Currently using a Mixamp 2017 (Astro) with 599's...but it's starting to die.

This yay or nay?
Check out the Schitt Hel. If you want to save money check out the Syba Sonic. This is just an amp so you would need a dac as well. This is a nay.

Don't waste money on this amp, a schiit Asgard will do so much better for $50 less
I take it that you aren't familiar with this amp at all.

Let it be known, any question in an audio related thread will be met with disregard and disrespect. They just want you to go away. All they want are people who agree with them in whole, or people to argue with.

That, and, quite a few audiophiles feel that they are constantly delegitimized, and if you WANT to be a prosecuted victim you COULD read the comment you left as being sarcastic and demeaning, their least favorite kind of comment.

Sincerely,
Someone who loves hi fidelity audio who will not refer to myself as an audiophile because of the attitude that club seemingly requires.

Hahaha thanks!

Sincerely, "apparently not an audiophile or anyone who has knowledge of hi fidelity audio"

I'll assume the Dual apple carplay radio I put in my wife's car for $70 doesn't get me in the club either…

So, for those interested, here's 3 links to my current 3 fave Audio nerds on YouTube. Each giving some great feedback on this amp.

https://youtu.be/bXxamgSnLxw

I'm in a bit of a conundrum because I was going to experiment with the Element 2 DAC amp

https://youtu.be/7B7f21WSYzI

But was eyeing this off as well. $250 is a helluva price for it. Must…resist!!!

Lastly, I purchased the Fiio Q3…

https://youtu.be/zzaDoetG7nM

..so I could play around with Apple Music Lossless audio and see if I could hear the difference in lossless audio as well as the different 'sound profiles' of my Philips X2hr and SHP9600. I love the Fiio and it it is the reason I am considering branching out to other amps/DACs. Thoroughly enjoying my audio hobby. Hope some of you find some joy in nerd gear as well.

Wondering the same if anyone has experience with both. The 887 has more low impedance power but the Magnius has more high impedance power. Both are relatively weak at single ended, even the Magni is as or more powerful than both. A lot of reviewers say the THX 789 and 887 are excellent amps but very "sterile" sounding.

I would highly recommend not taking advice from Zeos. I'm a fan of his but he's largely considered a joke when it comes to reviewing audio because he likes almost everything and is vague as hell most of the time. He's really good at critiquing design however so sometimes that's valuable for equipment like an amp.

If you're running the X2 and SHP9600 upgrade your headphones before buying a $200+ amp unless you have plans to upgrade soon to more demanding headphones.

It was $400, hard to get and over 6 months wait time, at the time I really wanted one. Now I have found that the desire to want one has never been real after I have accumulated half dozen expensive headphones and a few expensive amps, dacs. Now they are all on the shelf and collect dust...

For an extra $150 you can get a set of planars thrown in. Amp built it. I have these and they are fantastic! comfy, metal constriction, great isolation,

0 arguments on any points made here re: reviewers and headphones.

Zeos makes me laugh and his manic reviews are so damned train wreck style entertaining. I like to balance out all the hyper serious audiophile stuff with some dirty, gutter, Cheetos stains on your pajama pants Zeos stuff.

Almost bought the Focals and also considered the recent HiFi Man deals that popped up this month.

Didn't cuz all I have now is the Fiios and I'm staying strictly IPhone/Apple Music for now while I play around/rediscover and enjoy music.

So my 'bottom tier' collection is almost complete.

Koss koh30i (with the ridiculous ear pads. They weren't kidding at how good these damn things are for 30 bucks!!!)
Shp9500
X2HDR

Those are all great with the Fiios.

Next stop is the Element 2 DAC and some 2-500 cans. Just gotta get my office/listening room together first.

Any difference between this and the Drop THX AAA 789?
