But this review isn't on the new version of Wear (it's dated July 3rd) that was worked on in partnership with Samsung that was just announced.

Exactly. I am waiting for the new WearOS before I buy any smartwatch. I want it to be a dick tracy smartwatch first, and a exercise data tracker second. If I can't respond to signal texts w/ voice/quick text, take a quick phone call, get my phone notifications, have some onboard storage for my spotify playlists, then it's not a smart watch.

Seems a little weird people are trading in their Watch3 for what is basically the new Active. Do you guys not like the rotating bezel?
It's ok but I don't think it's worth $100 over the active. I traded in my Watch 3 for the new aluminum one.

Is there a breakdown as to what is so great about this model versus the active 2?

Traded in my Samsung Watch3... final price $87+tax for the Watch4 (44m) including $50 in Samsung credit and $50 hon ey points; great deal!
In case you weren't aware, when you do your trade in, you can keep the bands and charger. You only need to send in the actual watch.

Charge it up before shipping and take pictures and a video of the watch starting up, just in case.

Edit: also, don't forget to power it down before sealing the box. You don't want the battery to die in case there is a delay in them getting to process your trade.

I really like the rotating bezel but it's really thick with that and LTE. I'm thinking about trying out the new one because it has a virtual rotating bezel and I'd like to lose the bulk. Also, wanting to try the new os.

I am gonna stick to my gear S 3 frontier that has MST support. Spo2 or any other function can't convince me to leave my gear S3 behind.

It's these things that I find compelling, expecting the newer Wear OS version to only get better:
  1. Most applications you already have installed on your smartphone likely have a Wear OS counterpart app (with some exceptions, of course). Some of our favorites include Google Maps and NavMusic. You can download apps directly on your smartwatch from the Google Play Store.
  2. Most Wear OS watches nowadays support Google Pay, the company's contactless payment system.
  3. Google Fit support. I am a runner, and the ability to push data to Strava is a key driver for me.
The Samsung Tigen app choices are limited, Samsung Pay on the watch has a hard time keeping up with Apple and Google, and Strava support inside Samsung Health has always been so-so.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering as well. Wonder if any of the Garmin fitness bands also qualify

Yeah wondering the same as I still have a working Vivoactive that outlasted two Versas (both bought at different times and failed for the same reason, never trusting Fitbit again).
