I think I'd still rather pay 50 bucks more for new at Costco but not bad deal.

Shockingly the 8GB M1's crush everything I throw at it. I have a dozen tabs open, Xcode with large projects and simulators running, and the fan has yet to kick in. All driving 2- 32" 4K monitors.

On the flip side my 2019 i7 32GB 16"MBP is a house fire waiting to happen.

From what I can tell, it's tablets that are not eligible for the Costco warranty extension. I couldn't find anything excluding Apple computers. Maybe someone can correct me.
I was going to buy an iMac from costco due to warranty, I have citi costco card etc and premium membership but the manager explained that it doesnt add the additional tons of years like normal.

so I paid less for the iMac from military portal on apple.com and just used another card to double warranty. same item, 150 less.

That was probably the best move. I bought my M1 from AAFES and saved on the price and with no tax. Apple computers are like tanks anyway, and rarely have problems.

Lol I returned it too, im waiting for the M1's to hit refurb store fully loaded, so I can buy 16gb, 1-2tb iMac refurb + 10% military discount. I am a patient beaver. + 3% Apple Card return, but if I catch it at the right time, maybe 6% Apple Card refund!

so yeah, I am waiting

(I am wanting the complete iMac) not just iMac mini. so its a bit more expensive. but massive discounts on higher loaded items like MacBooks etc, you can get 2500 dollar MacBooks for like 1400-1500 because people want the cheaper outfitted ones, the fully loaded ones get the best discounts.

Not sure what your iMac dealing is all about and how that's relevant to your original question... whether Apple computers are included in Costco's extended warranty. I think the point is that it is, from what I can tell.

Because, they explicitly told me. Apple products don't get doubled warranty from Costco, and then the city card doesn't add the extra years to make 4-5 like other electronics.

They told me 1/1

On x86_64 architectures, more RAM is better. On the M1 Macs, more RAM doesn't seem to be required.

I haven't gotten above 50% usage, and that's using VSCode, Android Studio, Xcode, two of the Affinity products, Excel, and a bunch of other supporting tools. And of course I have Music, Safari, messages, Signal, Slack, etc.

Before, I had a Mac Pro 5,1 with 32GB of RAM. This mini runs more stuff faster, with less RAM, than that box did. And it's cheaper to boot.

Whatever you know about memory requirements on x86_64 doesn't really apply when it comes to the M series; what's more important now is storage. The good thing is TB3 gives you lots of bandwidth, so you can plug in external storage that's almost as fast as internal storage.

Disingenious. Its talking about an Intel Mac.

Bought iMac from this seller, turned out to be used, not just 'open box'. It had nicks on aluminum frame and keyboard had brown stains like coffee or something, so better stay away or at least be ready to ship it back.
Amazon Warehouse deals are much better than these, I have copped two M1 Mac Mini for $490.

10+ year Mac user here. I'm not a Mac fanboy and simply purchase whatever suits my needs best and is the better value. 8GB RAM is plenty for what these will be used for. The GPU smokes anything Intel offers at the moment. You can actually play games with the integrated GPU these offer. For $550 this is a pretty good deal and like a few others have mentioned, will easily last 5 years.

All the posters who claim 8GB isn't enough are smoking crack, plain and simple. If I needed a replacement for the i7 laptop I use as an HTPC, this would definitely fit the bill. The M1 destroys pretty much everything on the Wintel side right now from a performance perspective. The minuscule power consumption is icing on the cake. Intel and AMD are both probably 3+ years away from competing with the M1 from a performance per watt perspective. The M1 ARM architecture is simply that good. I typically run my i7 HTPC laptop at 800Mhz - 1.2Ghz and it gets the job done. If you need a big heavy rig to do things like video editing, audio engineering, etc, then MAYBE this won't suffice. But seriously, check the reviews online. The M1 eats Wintel for dinner at the moment.

Edit: Also, a few people mention purchasing at Costco for the better warranty. Meh to that I say as I've never had to have a Mac serviced outside of the stupid butterfly keyboard issue. Yes, when Apple was offering nVidia GPU's there was a massive failure rate BUT it was due to the nNvidia GPU's. If you purchase one of these and they fail due to some sort of hardware failure before they literally become obsolete I'd chalk it up to bad luck and nothing more.

Edit2: For those thinking the M1 can't possibly be that good, here's the evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxSI45eeAts. Logic Pro comparison begins at 22:10. Watch the M1 eat the Intel for breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime snack.

Edit3: More benchmarks - https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...after-all/. And more benchmarks - https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...con-magic/.

Summary from one of the Ars reviews linked above:

The Good
- Fast as hell
- Common x86 apps seem to work perfectly under Rosetta 2
- To this casual laptop user, the M1 feels pretty dang amazing
- Checks almost every box I care about when it comes to hardware I want to own and use

The Bad
- You might run into Rosetta compatibility issues with less-common apps
- No Windows [x86] virtualization (not yet, at least)

The Ugly
- It's such an improvement over Intel-based MacBook Airs that you might find yourself spending a thousand unplanned dollars to join the Apple Silicon club

One thing people fail to mention to is electric consumption. I put a kill a watt on my 8gb m1 Mac mini (bought at Costco for 550 btw) and the thing uses less then 10 watts pretty much all day. It's incredible when you think about it. Even benchmarking it the most I could get it to consume is like 25 watts peak. Also my understanding is 4 year warranty with the Costco card.

Fanboys like you don't like the truth.

Meanwhile on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/, this question:

I am looking for a macbook. Confused! Should I go with 8gb or 16gb model? I watched many 8gb vs 16gb videos. Got to know MBA M1 has very efficient ram management. Extra 8gb upgrade costs about 300$ in my country. Still confused if 8gb can suffice my needs don't want to spend extra if I won't need extra ram often.
My usage:
- 2 chrome window 4 tabs each (total 7-10 tabs)
-Figma

8GB: 23.0%
16GB: 77%

So, speaking of coming down to earth, you sorely need a parachute.

I think saying "very sneaky" meant that the user on reddit listed lot more than your quote with 2 Chrome tabs and Figma: it had blender, premier pro with 4 lines, photoshop and etc. So in that regard 16GB would be optimal for any business purpose. Or 8 GB would do fine for the home leisure use.
