We ordered these in June to put extra food in while we were on vacation. They are small but they did the job

In other words: This bowl is tiny

It looks like only the small one is at this price. The large one and the combo is more. I have a large dog and he is young but I have an elevated food and water bowl for him and it seems as it it's much better for him than ones that sit on the ground. I need another elevated bowl for him but I'm passing on this one.

I ordered 2 for both food and water, don't really care for more bowls, though, just the raisers. Went for no-rush shipping credit so should be here Wednesday.

I bought this two years ago for about a dollar more. It's small. My dog eats 3/4 cup of food twice a day, but he uses his tongue as a scoop and licks the kibble out. I would find it on the floor after meals. This might be good if you have a small but tall dog. Mine is about 21" at the shoulder and I wished the bowl was just a tad bit taller. That said, it's easy to clean. I'd totally buy the larger one if it ever went on sale.

The large, white bowl is $12 and some change.

I'm pondering getting this for my cats' water. They all prefer to stand up (lol, found that out when I had a very large bucket in the bathroom for pending hurricane) and I'm thinking the stainless steel will keep the water cooler than ceramic? Seems an appropriate size for water.

Wouldn't a phone book, some glue, and your bowl of choice do the same? It would be even harder to knock around

You are on the right track, but glue means you couldn't remove and wash out the bowl easily.
My advice for the cheaper of us is to cut a hole in a box of the appropriate height so that just the rim of your bowl is above the surface. If you want it to look nicer, wrap the box in some shelf contact paper of choice.
