Why does the guy take a picture when the lens is without the hood?

I never use lens hoods. I like the effect of light creeping in.

Isn't the hood mainly for outdoor light rejection and bump protection? Indoors or in darker settings I like to take the hood off cause it allows a bit more light to enter the lens when needed.
i dont think light reached the lens that way would reach the sensor. If it does, it would show up as a flair. It wont make pictures brighter like "allow a bit more light to enter the lens" implies

I would say it depends on the intensity of the light and the angle you're taking your photo, yes sun/light flairs are a thing, however you usually don't want to take a photo with the light source directly in front of you anyways unless you're going for a specific outcome. But, that is why ND stop filters exist, which I have a couple as well.

Photography is pretty much about playing with light anyways.

Just stick to YouTube videos and blogs. Pass on the free ebooks.

You'll learn more watching YouTube.
Any suggestions on which channels or blog to follow thanks

Peter McKinnon, Kold, Kai W are a good start imo and branch off from there. Depends what kind of style of photography/Videography you're into as well.

People that learned photography from books usually come in one flavor:

Passionate.

Inquisitive.

Love the hobby.

Usually kinda suck and don't make interesting images.

Knowing the rules of photography allows you to break them effectively

I purchased it as well in Nov 2020 and still haven't read it. Nor any of the other 15 thousand free books I've gotten thanks to SD'ers. Lol.
But you have them in case one day you want to read something!

Thanks for the ad blocking tip. I wasn't aware of it. Although I might feel a little guilty blocking ads when I know the content provider gets a very small piece of the profits, when all I have to do is watch a few seconds. For those channels that have great content, they deserve the ad revenue IMHO.

The views still count towards the YouTubers numbers. The viewer just doesn't see them ads.

Use BRAVE browser or if you're on something else add on AD BLOCK PLUS (ABP) extension.
