Nothing better than European synthetics, they impose a very high standard in their oils in which are really 100% synthetic to our lower API standard synthetics.

Do you have link for European synthetic for $15?

I think OP was referring to this deal. Castrol is a British brand. And it's $5 AR, not $15

The reason why most car manufacturers spec 0w-20 is because it can only be made as a 100% full synthetic. If you see 5w-20 just assume it is a synthetic blend. Sure, it might say full synthetic but it is the same as a juice box saying 100% fruit juice.
Ironically, Castrol had ruined the definition of full synthetic motor oil back in 1990s.

The latter part of this comment is just plain wrong. But I do agree with the former part.

Is this oil good for the winter in New England?
Check the car manual. The 5W20 is a very thin oil that's used in some modern vehicles.
For low temperatures you want a 0W oil. But maybe you need a 0W30 or 0W40.

Is it easy to DIY oil change ? I have not done this earlier and so am wondering.
Very easy to do on your own. You can easily learn by watching a few YouTube videos.

Its super easy… I learned to do oil changes from YouTube.
Yes but the only exception is whether the oil filter was overly torqued with a machine. Mechanic do this to meet service goals which is stupid. Hand tight is sufficient. Ugh!

Yep. And fuel economy standards driving this move from 5w30....
(E.g. in Toyota's, same engine in yaris vs scion xA, but Yaris spec'd with platinum plugs and thinner oil.)

This is exactly why I started doing my own maintenance and repairs. I cannot trust the stealership with anything.

Point made. Heck the mechanic don't even lubricant the ring from the top of the oil filter which is part of the reason why it was overly tight as we should do it our own. I cannot stress this enough. **sigh** to each to it own.

Uhhhh, no, that's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
