Appreciate this community effort.
this is how Slickdeals SHOULD be
Dangerous? Can be if you're not prepared.
1. Easy for many are quick jacks or ramps.
But they forget such can fail, so where's there backup??
If you have the car raised using ramps or quick jacks, you will want a set of regular jacks on both sides of the car holding it up even if the quick jack/ramps fail.
On a slope? Wheel chocks on both rear tires.
2. Where's the oil going?
Big oil catch pans sitting on dog/baby absorbent pads under the oil filter/drain plug.
Oil on the ground or all over is a MESS you don't want to clean up.
3. Did you WAIT until the engine is cold?
Nothing like hot engine oil burns...
4. Do you have the filter wrench ready?
The socket wrench?
The new oil plug washer (on some cars)? Filter? Oil?
If the filter or plug is on too tight (bad), you'll bitch awhile at the last guy who tightened it wrong.
Did you look up in the service manual how many turns the filter/plug should need to be tightened? (Varies depending on model - look it up.)
Socket wrench not only for the plug, but often the underbody panel.
5. Lighting? Headlamp or big bright lamp is good.
6. Shop towels.
No matter how you try, oil gets on things.
7. Eye goggles.
Seriously, you don't want oil etc falling on you.
8. Disposable gloves.
Used oil is not a moisturizer.
...
Beyond that, like others, step by step YouTube videos show you it'll usually only takes 15-30 minutes once you get the hang of it.

For low temperatures you want a 0W oil. But maybe you need a 0W30 or 0W40.

(E.g. in Toyota's, same engine in yaris vs scion xA, but Yaris spec'd with platinum plugs and thinner oil.)
