This is rated as the best all-around "standard speed 15MPH scooter" for under $500 for 2020. I researched every scooter available and watched almost every YouTube review for sub $500 scooters (I watched hundreds of videos!) and this was the model that was most consistently recommended as being the best value for the money which is why I bought it November 2020 and have used it almost every day since then. It has the battery in the base instead of the stem for better weight distribution, the high battery capacity give this scooter equal range to many $500-$800 models, it has features like cruise control that most cheaper scooters don't have, it has a digital readout showing your speed in 1/10th MPH increments, 4 bar battery meter, has a bright white headlight and red taillight for night riding which also blinks when braking, tires come pre-filled with Slime from the factory for good flat prevention since scooter tires/tubes are a huge pain to change, and has rear disc brake but it is pretty weak and needs a little adjustment ouf of the box to work well. The next step up would be about $800 for scooters that go 18MPH with only slightly better range but are usually a bit heavier, then $1200-$1400 for the scooters that go about 28MPH with nice wide tires and full suspension...and of course you can't forget the Rion Thrust for $8500 that goes 80MPH lol!
refer to him as OP, you neanderthal
pretty sure 99% of scooters wouldn't work if you're 500lbs lol

Question in a different vein - is this with air tires? From what I understood from the Hover 1 and the M360, tires are near-impossible to replace and it's good, until you get a flat.
Is this one similar? it's the only thing stopping me from buying this.
The stem/bars fold down horizontally and it clips to the rear fender so it is easy to carry around using the stem as the handle. It is surprisingly fast to charge only taking 60mins if the battery is at 33% or 90-100mins if it is nearly empty. I keep it in my closet by my front door, or in my trunk of my car, or in the broom closet at work. It takes up about the same amount of space as a small narrow golf bag. As long as there is a place to charge it at the gym or work then you're good since it fully charges from 0% to 100% in under 2hrs and it's range is over 15mi so you'll have no problem as long as the gym or work is less than 15mi each way.
I'm always worried that it will be stolen from outside the gym. I would ideally like to use to to go to the gym in summer, fall but hesitant because of horror stories I've heard of and locks that are easily broken.

Not necessarily true. You get into hyper scooter territory if you're willing to spend $1300. Kaabo Mantis pro can be had from Alibaba which is what I have. After graduating into the hyper scooter territory, and changing 3-4 scooters since I couldn't be satisfied with quality or speed, it can smoke many Dualtrons going 40mph for less than half the cost. You need full face helmet and to be very careful. Flying off the scooter at 40mph can guarantee some broken bones. But the joy going so fast is priceless.
I just checked Amazon and it's out of stock there, but according to CCC https://urlhasbeenblocked/product/B07ZJV8L7H, the regular Amazon price was $300, and lowest was $270. It's a good deal at $250 for sure. But I'm debating whether to pass and wait for a better deal like the Hover 1 Blackhawk at $250. That one has 28 miles range and 18mi/hour top speed.

Yes it's pneumatic (air filled) with inner tube. Recommendation for pneumatic tires is to inject Slime or similar tire sealants. Or some folks replace the pneumatic tires with solid or honeycomb tires.
F it, in for one. I rarely have more than a mile to travel, let's see how it holds up on pothole infested but mostly flat land
Im in nyc and have the es4 and have tried plenty of electric scooters and they all have pretty much no shocks. Would not even recommend going over even a crack youll feel it. Ive seen ppl with big giant hummer looking scooters those look to have some real shock absorbers but they are like over 1k.

Interesting. The ES4 has front and rear suspension but I guess the solid tires are a crapshoot for NYC streets. I'm in NYC also and just bought a Ninebot Max. Haven't ridden it yet because I haven't gotten a helmet or gloves. Hopefully the pneumatic tires will help somewhat. Once I'm comfortable with riding a scooter on the streets and through traffic I'm looking to upgrade to a Dualtron. I see tons of people on scooters riding in the streets and sidewalks and a majority of them aren't wearing any protective gear. Guess they will learn after they take their first spill.

I would suggest to carry the scooter in a backpack and walk the distance. Use the scooter to carry you after you reach 250
Right next to me, outside or in. My use case is parking the scooters next to my table. If in a city and need to lock, I can see that being a PITA.
