I'm so sick of having to choose 1080p or 4K with nothing in between. It's like having to choose between 4-cylinder or 16-cylinder engine.
IMHO perfect laptop resolution is 2560x1600 in 16:10 ratio for work or 2560x1440 in 16:9 aspect ratio for movies or gaming.
There is absolutely no need for 4K for laptops unless you are working with images requiring excessive details.
500nits is great spot for brightness for laptops and anti-glare is a must so you don't stare at yourself.
50 Whr battery with 4K doesn't help either. I would love to see 70-80WHr.

Phenomenal deal for portable laptop for work. Great CPU, display and specs. Normally AMD laptops will have some issues with display quality but this is top notch.
I ended up getting LG Gram 17 from Costco for $1250 (I think it's still on sale). It's perfect for work except slightly less than desired brightness at 350 nits and lack of anti glare. Intel Xe graphics is pretty good as well.

BestBuy runs a deal for Gigabyte Aero 15 which has a oled 4k at 400nits. But there are a lot of negative reviews for 2020 model. Not sure whether they have reslved them in the latest model.
true. thinkpad are not that beefy when it comes to the spec for the price, and if you are looking for best performance for the cost, you aren't looking at thinkpad anyways.
value is also very subjective. thinkpad are better build, easy to upgrade, has more ports available, and nicely put together. don't mistaking thinkpad T/X/W line with lenovo, Dell or HP consumer line. it is night and day different. and if you were to look at HP elitebook/Z or Dell precision, you find thinkpad are not any more expensive for the similar configuration.
anyhow, if you want a reliable laptop that you can throw in your bag anywhere you go, and expect something that will keep functioning 8 year later, you would value build quality, and that's where the business grade laptop shines.

Totally agree. My t450s after upgrading the ssd and ram it's still running strong
Luckily, no one is whining about the gaming specs! This is a sweet laptop. It does feel a touch on the expensive side, but you do get a lot.
I also would like to see a 2560 x 1440 pixel screen. IMHO, the screen size is too small to warrant 4K. I suppose you could always lower the resolution.

Forget QHD. I will settle for a Thinkpad with 16:10. It's not like they can't fit it with those bezel.

This is sad but in AMD based ultrabooks, currently only HP pavilion Aero 13 is the only one with a 13.3" 16:10 disp6with both 1200p and 1600p option. There is Lenovo ThinkBook 13s as well but rest all are 16:9.

300 nits doesn't mean it's bad or unusable in outdoor. Check the Notebookcheck review. The display can go around 330 nits and it's a matte display. They have confirmed that it's perfectly usable in outdoor unless it's direct sunlight. So, depending where you use your laptop most of the time, that high resolution display with good color gamut can be a solid deal.
