Best drone you can buy for that price. Yes, the cost it worth it over the original mavic mini

The mavic air 2 on ebay for $700 is better.

Different class of drone because of its weight.

I have been flying the Mavic Pro for years. I got this drone at Costco to replace my aging Mavic Pro.

I cannot express how disappointed I am with the Mini 2. I thought because of the updated flight and transmission software, it would be a good replacement, but it flies terribly, frequently shifts around on its own, never does a good job hovering in place, and sometimes takes off for several seconds before you're able to stop it. It was so bad that I even exchanged it for another one at Costco. The second one exhibited the same problems. I'm now going to return this Mini 2 and will end up getting another one of the Mavic Pro drones.

If you are a first time user, you may not notice these limitations/problems, but if you're coming on as a experienced drone pilot you will not be happy with this drone, even though on paper it should be a much better drone.
I must say as a first time drone buyer (bought to get great drone shots on vacation) I bought this exact Costco package (although for $500 six months ago) and have had zero problems with the hovering in place (rock solid) and the takeoffs (it rises about 6 feet in the air and stays there until you give it a command). I don't have any other drones to compare it to, but I have been very pleased with the behavior of this drone.

I do not have these issues. May be your unit have a problem. Mine flies as expected everytime, and return to home.

No fly zone means just that: it's a no fly zone.
What's the difference between the red no fly and the light blue FAA authorization zones?

The light blue zone you can fly in, but you have to request authorization (look up LAANC). It's easy to do using the Aloft app and takes about a minute. I live in a light blue zone and this is what I have to do.

Is there a benefit or other reason to still register this drone with the FAA even when using it for recreational purposes? Am I supposed to register it if I intend to take photos that may later be sold online?

I have owned this drone for 6 months and haven't experienced what you have. I've also read and watched tons of reviews from other owners and have never heard this. I'm not going to call you a liar but can you please explain why you might be the only one with this experience? for instance...

Do you live on the North or South Pole?
Do you live on the moon?
Do you live on Mars?
Do you live under water?
Do you have lots of vivid dreams about malfunctioning drones?

It's attached to the drone, can't be removed. I mean, you could walk around with the drone in your hand and pretend its a camera if you want.
Thank You, I got it yesterday and took a test ride. It's indeed impressive in Aerial Footage, but let's see if can use it as a regular 4k Video cam.

Isn't having a charging Hub useful. 2nd battery has to be charged while it is in the aircraft, right?
