Just wondering if I'm the norm. I bought an Instant Pot when they first came out and everyone said they were the best thing in the world. I used it maybe 5 times. For the past 5 years, it's been sitting in my garage. So are most of friend's Instant Pot or knock offs. It reminds me of the bread maker I got for Christmas 25 years ago and ended up at the Goodwill store.

Do I need this if only cooking rice? Or in other words is this better than a rice cooker?

It has a rice button on the panel. I would buy it if I make things other than rice but if you make just rice then it's probably not worth.

I'm very interested in the Sous Vide function! Anybody have any experience with this particular function and model?
I'd question it but I don't have any experience with this device. I'm curious how it circulates the water and the temperature accuracy. An Anova or Joule is accurate to a degree or less and has good circulation.

It's like people buying gaming laptop but don't game. Not the laptop's fault. You just need to find recipes that you like.
I use it to make soup, dessert, short ribs, ox tail, porridge...
My local supermarket sells beef back ribs for like $2/lb. It's a cheap cut and people don't know how to cook them. I can make red wine braised ribs with pressure cooker easily and would taste the same as fine dining restaurant.

Bread maker on the other end is not very useful. it costs more to make and doesn't taste any better than my local bakery.

From the Instant Pot reviews that I've seen, the Sous Vide function is not accurate at all. I'm sure that goes for all pressure cooker with this functions; by design.

From what I can tell sous vide devices churn the water for more even temperature control, the instant pot and likely this don't churn. They also work on temperature feedback to precisely control the temperature and I'm not sure what either of these have. Looking underneath the pot in an instant pot, I don't see anything that is obviously a precision temp sensor.

I use mine frequently. If you don't look for pressure cooker recipes or have no need for a pressure cooker then it's probably not the smartest idea to buy a pressure cooker because they're popular. There are some things like stock that a pressure cooker does better than any other method.

Bread maker, while making a great product, takes time.

Instapot saves time. My wife can take out boneless chicken thighs and cook a great chicken noodle soup in less than 30 minutes.

This includes prepping, boiling water for noodles and cooking everything. From freezer to table in less than 30 minutes.

In the past we would have to sit by the range for 2-3 hours.

Beef stew also takes less than 35 minutes from freezer to plate.

Last, I use the leftover broth to make mashed potatoes, no more boiling potatoes in water and taking out their flavor. The next day after soup, I cut up potatoes and just fill the pot enough to cover potatoes with broth then pressure cook for 8 minutes. In less than 20 minutes I have the best mashed potatoes.

And it's only 1 pot clean up.

I got one a couple of years ago. If you are making stews or roasts or those kind of dishes, these are great for that but my 8 quart is a lot for just me. I bought a smaller instantpot for "just rice" as I wanted something easy for overnight oatmeal and that was great for $35, and I should probably be using it more to steam broccoli as well, and do those egg bites I enjoy. My 8 quart I use for chicken fricassee primarily and will be trying some turkey chili recipes once the weather cools a bit. (not a fan of stews in the summertime but that's just me)

I use my 4 year old Instant Pot probably once a month and the one I have has some overheating issues, so maybe I should pull the trigger.

Anyone know how long the timer goes on this thing? I use my sous vide for black garlic, and have to go out to the garage a couple of times daily to check and make sure it's still rolling, the timer only goes to 72 hrs and sometimes the water evaporates (yes it's covered)

No sure if anyone is into making cannabutter but sous vide is the way to go if you are. You can decarb and infuse easily and the bonus is no smells at all if you do it right.

These Magic Chef's are excellent! Great quality chunky machines. Some of the lower-end Instant pots are meh. I've had this Magic Chef (bought at HD) for several years now. Tempted to buy this one too in black. Nice. Great Christmas gifts. Also, notice the stainless steel inner pot . You usually don't get that at this price point.
