You pay more for more precise hinge, higher quality steel, harder sharper teeth, so that when you have your arm jammed behind an engine to remove some clip you can barely see, the tool doesn't let you down and drop the thing into the freaking twilight zone. Every time that happens, you'll wish you paid for the nice ones.
If that hasn't happened to you, use the cheap ones! Cheap tools are great. Save your cash and upgrade the tools that you do use all the time.
The other thing would be how long these last. For a homeowner who uses them a couple of times per year you probably won't wear out a kobalt, husky, or craftsman pair, but if you're using these a lot knipex is probably worth it.

I've got a few pairs of knipex but can't really see it for these.

The other likely benefit is that the longer length means more force at the ends, so metal that has some give and springs back is useful. My experience with other knippex tools I owned is that under a lot of force the metal flexed and snapped back to its proper shape instead of bending.
Overall, I have just been really impressed with the knippex tools I bought, at a discount thanks to SD, as I've been slowly upgrading all my random tools to my till I die tools.
I justify the cost with the money not spent on professionals where often the biggest benefit they have is tools. They may have experience, but I have more time to spend on my job till I figure it out.
I can't really think of a use case for these. hard to reach stuff on cars. hell lazy to reach stuff on cars. If you wait to need them you probably won't buy them. If you have them in your tool box you'll probably reach for them. Or not, because you already have a similar tool. Or maybe the purchase on the HF ones are the reason you don't grab them more frequently. I had HF ones in my drawer for years and never used them. I have used these a couple times and they were handy, both the teeth and i believe once or twice for the various shapes closer to the fulcrum.
I think the double x jointed ones might be a little more useful than these but considering I paid $80 after tax, if you like the brand and don't look for reasons not to buy tools, its a decent buy.
