You can't play with friends online and it's not even couch Co-op friendly. Each extra car is the price of a Nissan Ultima.
Nintendo is really trying to find the limits of high prices for gimmicky features.

My kid loves it. The other day she played with it for 4 hours straight, and customized the race track with all her World of Nintendo figures and stuff.
I don't know how many hours of use we will get out of it, but it was a toy that definitely had a "wow" factor that made for a great birthday gift.
