Personally, if bad rust, I would knock the worst off with a grinding disc like the DeWalt on here before going to the cup brush that will remove rust from within the pits on the metal. You could then use filler primer, but you are most likely going to still have that hammered finish from the pits in the metal.
If concerned, wear a face shield, leather gloves and a long sleeve shirt and no problem. In the summer, I just wear sunglasses and use a magnet to pull out any stray splinters that are not all that hazardous unless you get one in the eye.

If that is the best you have, you are beyond just ignorant. Go on, check out where the box store brands are manufactured. The buck stops at my desk and not only happy to buy and use, but will be grateful if you can find a better value for the dollar spent.
Good thing every other brands jack stands weren't made at the same factory as Hazard Fraud....
