Comes around every once in a while. Was $300 last Labor Day and again in January of this year. I ended up buying one each time. They're great for spreadsheeting / productivity.
I find the vertical viewing angles to be really poor. I can't find a good position to look at it and have the top and the bottom of the screen have good contrast at the same time. Text gets grayed out towards the bottom. Probably going to send it back and stick with the 27" IPS
Doesn't sound weird at all, actually. You got a better product for your needs.

Me too, scored two in Jan for $500 after $100 Amex offer.
I know this probably sounds weird, but I replaced my 27" 1400p 144hz gsync monitor with this one since I don't really game anymore and wanted more screen real estate / resolution for working from home. No regrets, and I was even able to sell my old monitor to cover a good portion of the cost.

VA is fine. In fact, for gaming it's better.. and many TV's are VA.. but yeah for gaming you be better off with a higher refresh rate to prevent ghosting, etc with the fast movements. One thing to really consider with a screen is the stand, which can make a huge difference with the screen placement. Dell usually makes very good stands.
