In order to support 4k 60hz, you will need HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps) or 2.1 (48Gbps) (release date 2013~2016)
For 8k or 4k 120hz support, need HDMI 2.1 (48Gbps) (release date 2017)
This is only partly true, the change from 10.2Gbps to 18Gbps was a change to the signal NOT to cables. Any cable that could do 10.2Gbps before HDMI 2.0 can do 18Gbps. That said there are a lot of cheap cables out there that were never up to spec.
