Has anyone experienced that their phone heats up considerably when charging with this ? Is this normal? Can a phone case amplify this "heat output when charging" behavior?

Bought 3 for use and gifts so far and they look and work great. Teenage loved it.

Works with most cases as long as they're not too thick. The thicker the case the less efficient the charging. Standard issue for all Qi chargers.

The further apart the charging coils are, the more heat is generated. So yes, a thicker case will cause the coils to be further apart, and generate more heat. Do make sure it's lined up correctly, because having them off-center is the same as having them apart (it's more like, how far apart the dead center of each coil is...even if they're virtually touching they can be "too far apart", if that makes sense).
