I've owned the Philips SHP9500, was also my first open back before I went further down the rabbit hole. I own both these H6XX and Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro. The H6XX would be an upgrade in every way from the Philips, imho.

To me the Beyerdynamic are the best and personally my "endgame" headphone, they are normally $599 I got them recently at Newegg for $459. Of course there are more, Focal Clear ($1000) Seinheiser 800s, and on it goes.

Remember, sound is always subjective and what one person says or likes another may not. That said, the HD6XX is very highly regarded as one of if not the best bang for the buck at $200. Give them a try, I bet you don't regret it.

These are the best headphones I've ever used. Very comfortable, natural sound.

I still buy headphones from time to time to see what I'm missing, but always end up returning them.

Seeming more and more unlikely that we'll see the $160 + ear pads deal again, huh?

For all the audiophiles out there, I have a question. I currently have a Phillips SHP9500 and it was my first open back headphone experience and I love it. Is this a good upgrade and as a follow up is an dac/amp required? Consider I also play games with my Phillips

Sennheiser is pretty bad these days. Quality and support are a shadow of what they were 20 years ago. Honestly, get something else or hope you never need warranty work
While I agree that things have definitely changed, these headphones have been in production for a long time and are about as reliable as you can get. You can buy replacement pads and cables easily.

How are these compared to HD600 for 289?
They're darker. Hd600 has less midbass and is perceived brighter. The differences are pretty minor though. I'll take the 600 over 6xx any day, but if $100 more is a lot to you get the 6xx and don't look back. The 600 is so sexy though...

Thanks bud. I am looking for a neutral sound. Which one would you recommend? I have philips Fidelio x2hr and find them more treble.

Thanks so much for your output, I'm definitely going to give them a try. I just hope I don't end up in the rabbit hole like I did with keyboards. Someone send help to my wallet please.

I feel the 600 is more neutral to me, but neutral is subjective. Neither is neutral though because they have a massive bass roll off. I would say you're better off saving money and getting the 6xx imo.

Yes I did it for a keyboard drop a month ago and they immediately sent me a refund of price difference. Just send them a message about the order
Awesome. They adjusted my price immediately

Are these the HD650?

How do these compare to the hd598? I assume the hd598 is more "fun" and these are more neutral?

They're like the 650s but have a much shorter cable.

Do I need an amp. If so, which one would you recommend?
