Edit: I'm not dissing apple. Just giving my opinion, phones are a necessity, but for me to put a device capable of 24hr recording in my home, especially in my bedroom, it either better be an insanely valuable product or leave me no doubts on security and csam does, I'm unsure on security.
On the valuable part, it's just a little valuable. I live in an apple ecosystem household. I can't remember 1 time in the last few years I haven't had a device with a physical Siri button present, whether it be an Apple Watch or an iPhone. For ME, an HomePod would just eliminate me reaching over 4 inches and pressing the crown on my watch.
Edit: if you were solely looking for a way to AirPlay sound with quality for a reasonable price, check out those ikea Sonos speaker. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/symf...-00357561/ no mic, can form stereo with 2, airplay 2 and they're legit Sonos speakers
If looking for a smart speaker I'd still get this over the others. With all that said, I still trust apple 95% not to screw me

Woot woot qty 2 for the garage
Apparently we're not allowed to have honest discussions of privacy in this thread. Bunch of posts deleted. I made a post with zero aggression, all friendly. Gone.

Alexa routinely kicks her butt.
Thread is just now starting to become THE standard for smart home devices that don't require WiFi bandwidth. I'd avoid getting any new non-Thread devices at this point, if you can.
I am NOT saying you are wrong but my whole home is smart, so I know a little about this. Realistically for thread to make sense, everything needs to be thread. And we are 4 years away from affordable thread devices. For example, a fan control module, no company will make one for years and it will cost an arm and a leg. For example, let's use 2021, a full thread smart home will cost $4000 where a zigbee one may cost $500
